redfive replied on October 22, 2008 21:52 to the question "Can you associate multiple artists with one album?" in Songbird:
So there is that (you can change artist to "Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney" for example ), plus you can add an 'album artist'. If you right click a track and go into the metadata editor you can add them, or show the column and edit that inline.
Caveat: not 100% sure this is available in 0.7, the 0.8.0pre builds have this in them. You can get a nightly from developer.songbirdnest.com
redfive replied on October 17, 2008 16:22 to the question "where does songbird store files?" in Songbird:
I'm not sure what you mean. We don't actually support transferring files from the ipod to songbird (and your computer). If you did an import of your itunes library in startup or through the tools->options preferences panel then your music is still where it was, we don't move it on disk.
If you can give us your exact steps we may be able to help more. Thanks.
redfive replied on October 17, 2008 16:09 to the question "Is there a way to fix filter panel when switching between playlists?" in Songbird:
There sure is. Whenever you're looking at media in the media tab you can change the 'Media View'. You can go into the View menu, then down to Media Views and select 'Filter Pane'. You can also use the drop down list just to the left of the search box ( the search box is on the right hand side above the filters and tab strip).
There are also some additional views you can install from our addons website. They should be tagged as Media Views and here's a link: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/tag/me...
Enjoy
redfive replied on August 28, 2008 22:10 to the question "Supported file types?" in Songbird:
So, a couple of things regarding the WebpageAPI (WPAPI):
1) the syntax you used is correct and identical for 2 cases:
var mainLib = songbird.mainLibrary;
var mainLibToo = songbird.libraries('main');
and
var webLib = songbird.webLibrary;
var webLibToo = songbird.libraries('web');
2) The Web Library used to exist in our service pane (on the left), was renamed to Media Web History and then removed from the pane altogether. It does still exist though and contains all the tracks that get created when a page that /doesn't/ use the WPAPI gets scraped for tracks. So if you do a skreemr search and get some tracks back that open the WebPlaylist (at the bottom of the webpage) then you'll have those tracks in your Web Library.
3) Site Libraries get created when a webpage uses the webpage api and are references by calling:
var siteLib = songbird.siteLibrary;
There isn't a matching songbird.libraries() call for the siteLibrary.

Thanks for the detailed response! I just filed bug 11004 in http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com if you want to track that.
redfive replied on July 24, 2008 16:51 to the problem "Latest Songbird ATE most of my Mp3's" in Songbird:
This is very strange because we don't do deletion of any tracks off the user's hard drive (we're not supposed to anyway). The image you posted is too small to read so I have a couple of questions:
1) were all the tracks removed in the My Music folder (or subfolders of)?
2) it sounds like some of the tracks in that folder weren't deleted, is that right?
3) In any particular folder were some tracks deleted and others not?
4) Did you update from a previous version of Songbird or do a clean install of 0.6.1?
4.a) Were you using a profile from a previous installation?
5) Did you have any devices plugged in?
6) Can you provide any more detail about what you did during installation/upgrade? For instance, were you prompted to scan again, did you say yes, did you see a dialog about having an outdated profile and creation of a new one, did you do anything after launching before noticing the missing tracks?
7) Did you have any add-ons installed? If so, please list them and their versions.
8) And just to be super clear, you are indicating that the actual files on your harddrive were removed and you could navigate through Windows Explorer and see that they were missing, not that they were just absent from your Songbird Library.
Thanks in advance for any additional info you can provide.
redfive replied on July 15, 2008 16:15 to the problem "Songbird won't start on Arch Linux, D-Bus raises an error." in Songbird:
What version of dbus do you have on your system? We had some issues with users having older versions of dbus, updating the dbus on their system (which sometimes required advance the version of their os) generally fixed the problem. On my Fedora machine (FC8) I have the following:
dbus-python-0.82.3-1.fc7
dbus-1.1.2-9.fc8
dbus-glib-0.73-8.fc8
dbus-glib-devel-0.73-8.fc8
dbus-devel-1.1.2-9.fc8
dbus-x11-1.1.2-9.fc8
dbus-glib-0.73-8.fc8
dbus-libs-1.1.2-9.fc8
dbus-libs-1.1.2-9.fc8
dbus-devel-1.1.2-9.fc8
I imagine you should be able to find the versions of your dbus libraries using AUR, but I'm not familiar enough with Arch to explain how.
redfive replied on July 11, 2008 20:05 to the question "I closed an Add-On and I don't know how to reopen it, how can i do it?" in Songbird:
It depends a little on the particular add-on, but many of them have a menu item under the Tools menu. Some also are actually DisplayPanes and you can go to one of: View->Show Right Sidebar, View->Show Content Pane Bottom or View->Service Pane Bottom to dispaly the pane. Then pick from the display pane picker button in the top right corner of the Display Pane to choose what you want there.
redfive replied on July 10, 2008 16:47 to the problem "Go Configure!" in Songbird:
The tarball that you download and unpackage is the actual application, not the source code. You don't have to compile it, therefore no configure step is needed.
If you really want to build Songbird check out the docs over on http://developer.songbirdnest.com
