I'm not supposed to reveal these things until they're closer to done (forgive me, developers)... but we are making good progress on this - both an alarm clock and a sleep timer. So many of you have requested it (and we did, too!) that we put it at the top of the list. I can't promise when, though, or I'll really have to answer to the developers.

Hi Nathan,
We don't have any plans to develop for other platforms at this time. We were hoping to, and we are glad to see so many people wanting the Player.
However, each platform takes a lot of technical resources and time to learn, build, test, deploy, and maintain. We certainly confirmed this by developing the Player! Plus, research on smartphone app usage by public radio listeners indicates that the iPhone is where we should be putting our limited resources right now. Yes, iolaus is right that iPhone development is not easy, but iTunes is by far the killer distribution platform, as our success has affirmed.
Hopefully, mobile platforms and apps will become more compatible with each other in the future.
Of course, things change rapidly. Just because we're not walking through a door now doesn't mean it won't be the right door to walk through later.

Sorry for the delayed response.
We have a video demo here:

You can favorite a station by going to its page and tapping the star icon on the upper right.

Marten: We have invited stations to provide multiple stream bandwidths and to label them as such, but not all have the resources to do so. On the station page, there are little (somewhat mysterious) icons telling you which networks (EDGE, wifi, 3G) the stream works best on.
Bob: Sorry you're having all these issues - it's helpful for us to know - I have passed to the developers. We definitely do not mean to add injury or insults! It would help to know what device and OS you're using the app on.

Hello Marten and Jose,
I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the app. It is not perfect, we know! We are tracking the issues and working on them as we can. Things like smooth scrolling were actually removed to improve loading performance (believe it or not), but we are working on other options in order to reinstate. An update that should appear in the next week or two will take care of the loading problem at launch.
Yes, the Public Radio Player is by the major public radio organizations, and we do want to make products you can trust. However, the project is aiming high with limited funding and strict deadlines, so we're doing our best and learning along the way. Keep in mind that there's no central data/stream store, so stream performance depends on the 300+ stations themselves. We do our best to keep them informed of best practices but they don't always have the resources, either.
Hang in there (and in the meantime, donate to your local station to help support their stream). And if you keep reporting issues, I'll send you a tshirt. Small consolation, perhaps, but hey, it's not a tote bag.
Best,
Rekha

Richard - the developers are working on a scrolling fix as well as some performance fixes as well. The scrolling issue seems to affect the 2.2.1 iPod Touch users only. We will address it, but you could also upgrade to 3.0: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/softwa... However, it costs $9.95.
We plan to submit a release with these improvements in the next week or two (though don't hold me to the timeline!).
Best,
Rekha
