Hey Light-Ace. Valve Corp. (Steam) has a overlay that functions with all games. You might want to go poke them about adding a media player to their service.

I've since switched media players to XMplayer.
There's a DSP wrapper available for XMplayer that allows me to use all of the well-established visualization add-ons (Like Milkdrop!).

Visualizations are KEY! It may seem secondary, but a good visualizer can really make or break a player.

I read a related post in questions, regarding moving to Gstreamer. It would be simply wonderful if you guys could attract the already well developed visualizations community. No idea how this would be accomplished, but it looks like you are building it so they come.
