Are there any plans to add that functionality (setting the desired umask per configured drive) to the Mac version of ExpanDrive in the near future? It is most annoying and counterproductive, that ExpanDrive does not respect the server-side umask nor enable one to set it within the client itself. It forces one to constantly chmod the files and creates countless issues when collaborating with others on a joint server.
repi reported a problem in ExpanDrive on May 26, 2009 12:52:
Version 2 of ExpanDrive is slow and consistently failsI have been a happy user of ExpanDrive on a Mac for about a year now. When version 2 came out I have been quick to upgrade expecting the promissed enhancements in speed and stability of the application. Unfortunately the experience was far from promissed and expected. Version 2 is slow to connect, it annoyingly pops up a new finder window upon connecting (Version 1 just mounted a disk), it is slow in listing folder contents, sometimes (when there is a large number of files in the folder) not listing the contents at all, it is slow in transfering files, often failing to transfer them at all. All in all the upgrade has proved to be a frustrating downgrade to an unusable product.
Luckily, I have saved a copy of ExpanDrive v1.3.1 and keep reverting to using it instead of version 2. In comparison to v2 it just works.
I am using ExpanDrive to mount ssh volumes from a combination of Mac OS X Leopard Server (most of the time), FreeBSD and Sun servers. I have not extensively tested and compared the combinations of ExpanDrive version and server, the experience however seems comparable across all the servers I connect to.

Simple and clear is great. The best option in my view would be to offer a preference by which one can set the old icon, current icon or any new icon as the menubar (or even application) icon. It does not even have to be a gui selectable option, but a terminal one - as long as it is a persistent setting. My worst surprise was when the icon changed from one update to the other completely throwing me off, being used to and liking the old icon. And I still keep replacing new icon files with old ones with each update.

Matt,
I suspected as much due to the difference between files manipulated through terminal vs. by "regular" applications. I guess there should be a preference someplace that would change the default Finder behavior, but it would affect the whole system and not only the a behavior on one drive. A "fix" for enabling per drive defaults when using Finder (or Mac applications in general) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!-

I have the same question. Is it possible to set and enforce default permisions for mounted drives?
I have set the server side umask to 002 (as described on http://jeff.robbins.ws/articles/setti...), and it seems to work if I create files on the mounted disk within terminal (e.g. touch test.txt), however files saved to the mounted drives by Mac OS X applications (e.g. TextEdit or TextMate) still have permissions set to 644.-

I'm surprised myself that I feel so strongly about it, but I absolutely hate the new icon. I loved and grew irrationaly close to the old one, to the point that I immediately fetched my system backup and changed all the icons in the new version to the old ones. The old icons are simple, distinctive and there is something very gut-feeling right about them. The new icons are too complex, undistinctive and (sorry, but I did say I feel strongly about it) repulsive.
I love ExpanDrive, it has made my work immensly easier and more pleasurable, I have great respect for the work put into the application and the improvements with each update, but this change of icon is a huge blunder in my eyes. As stupid as it sounds, if I only found ExpanDrive now, the new icon would be a tough obstacle towards accepting it, the way I had embraced the application otherwise.
