Yup!!!
Even i would like some kind of gadget like what he has mentioned above. Something like where in when a visitor visits the website, he can directly subscribe to my group by entering his 10digit mobile number.
It will be kind of convinient thing.
Moreover, then u can ask the site visitor to verify his subscription request by replying something to 9901554321 or something like that.
And one more thing i like the most is that unlike other websites, VAKOW is not using a premium number. I just love this place.
MMWWAAHH to VAKOW !!!

Hi Santosh,
Here's what you can do:
1. Confirm your device using twitter's international number (hopefully you'll start receiving smses)
2. Connect your twitter account with vakow account (to post via vakow's number) – rg, on June 13, 2008 06:42

Do you currently pay (if you're not on roaming)? No (it's against TRAI guidelines). So, receiving messages from Twitter doesn't cost either. – sol, on May 27, 2008 19:07

No you don't. Receiving the SMS is not charged. However, twitter only lets you receive 250 SMSs per month. – Preshit, on May 27, 2008 17:56

The recently launched Summize Twitter Search is also a great alternative.
You can filter results by language, by sender, by recipient, and more...

Bearing in mind that this reply was posted 5 months ago, is it still current? None of our friends and relatives in India (West Bengal), including those with BSNL or Vodafone Essar, have been able to use the short code, other than to receive SMS. The short code also appears to be a premium rate number - is it still cheaper to send text messages to that than to Twitter's international number?
Isn't it possible to have a normal Indian number as an alternative (as seems to be offered by www.vakow.com/twitter listed by rg in his reply)? Finally, Twitter currently automatically encourages everyone registering an Indian mobile phone to use the 5566511 short code, even though it may not work for their mobile number. Shouldn't Twitter provide the usual international number rather than the short code to those users whose mobile numbers aren't attached to the listed carriers on a plan on which it works? – obhi, on April 19, 2008 22:14

Hi,
We have just starting allowing posting to twitter via our 10 digit non-premium number in India.
It's cheaper than posting to a shortcode (regular SMS cost apply) and works on all mobile operators in India.
Please visit:
http://www.vakow.com/twitter/
You can complete your twitter registration by sending the confirmation SMS to their international number (one time) and then connect you account with Vakow! to post.
Please do send feedback at twitter@vakow.com
cheers

The other alternative is to use Tweetscan. This service lets you specify up to five keywords that you want to track.
It will then email the search results for these keywords to you on a daily or weekly basis.
