As soon as I found the settings, I turned them all off. They may be nifty, but for me, they serve no utility.
It seems that the IE extension (v0.9.85) is getting more attention than Firefox. Firefox or Flock extension 3.1.0 is problematic, but on my Windows XP machine, Xmarks for IE never generates a failure message.
I've just given up for now on having normal synch on Firefox and manually download periodically to get rid of the red error flag on the icon. After downloading, it syncs for a short while and then begins the silent errors again with "An unknown synchronization error has occurred."
It still retains some utility, but requires manual intervention several times a day across multiple platforms. I'm going to set up my own sync server and see if that changes anything.

unknown synchronization errorOn OS X, Xmarks 3.01 & 3.02 in Firefox 3.0.8 and Flock 2.0.3 fail with:
"An unknown synchronization error has occurred."
This started today around 10A CDT. I was able to sync last night and this morning. Works fine in Windows.-
rgreene501 started following the problem "Safari beta stops running" in Xmarks.
