I have 2.2.1 and I had very similar problems as above. I've restored my iPhone, as also mentioned above, and - problem solved. If the support guys knew just to tell people even this common troubleshooting step, I bet a whole bunch of headaches would be cured right there.

I receive a "gateway timeout - HTTP 503 response" error several times a day in Twitterrific. It says this is a problem with Twitter's server and to contact them if the problem persists.
