How would you suggest they implemented it? – Riaz, on July 29, 2008 10:02

I have the same problem aliencam. I'm luckier in the sense that IDC only loads after the main content is finished but it still delays the correct displaying of the sidebars.
The problem is that the comment counts are quering the IDC database each time to check how many comments each posts have. On a blog's main page where the most recent 10 posts exist, it needs to query 10 times. Add to that the IDC widgets, and the time inrceases even more.
The best thing to do would be to allow somehow the IDC scripts to load last in the page. If that's not an option, then the DB speeds need to be improved.

I am having this same problem, it makes loading my blog's main page almost impossible. I just send everyone my RSS link instead.
I think the way to fix this (not that the end user can just do it if you use something like the wordpress plugin) is to make the scripts load LAST on the page.
You solve the exact same problem with a twitter bar on a blog by putting the HTML code where you want it, and then executing the scripts after the last line in your footer. This causes the entire website to load, and THEN the twitter bar. If we could do this with intensedebate it would not cause a problem with anything. (Usually people read at least 5 seconds of a post/article before wanting to post a comment anyway, so it would be okay for comments to load last.)
instead, IntenseDebate (for me) loads before my right navigation bar, which means you can't get to any other pages until the comments are finished loading (which often takes FOREVER.)
lets just hope the IntenseDebate team can fix this soon so nobody stops using it!

We're currently working on a way for the blog admin to set the default for the sorting. Right now, however, the only way to sort the comments is to do it manually through the comment system - each time you visit the page.
We understand that this is urgent and we're doing our best for it to happen sooner rather than later.-
