Ricardo replied on July 30, 2009 19:14 to the problem "Songbird won't open again after initial start" in Songbird:
well i'm using xp and even with 1.3.0b1 that same error happens over and over, in xp sp3, in linux under wine, in vista, in win7, happens the same everytime even with a clean install, and i'm running it as an administrator. i don't know why it doesn't happen with others, because every computer i installed songbird in windows, give me the same error at songbird startup :'(

the problem is that error happens even on a fresh install. if i remove my profile it happens anyway. but i'll try that and get back to you. – Ricardo, on June 16, 2009 12:14

Ricardo replied on April 23, 2009 09:26 to the problem "Why doesn't songbird use variables when translating to another language?" in Songbird:
in version 1.0 and 1.1.1 every variable was appearing without the corresponding string. for example it appeared "brandShortName;" instead of Songbird in every string that the variable was used. this happened for all strings. the translators for Portuguese language decided to use "Songbird" instead of writing the variable's name in the translations, and the last versions of songbird can't run on the windows PCs i use so I can't test if in the last version this still happens or not :(
i hope i wasn't to confusing trying to explain this :S

Ricardo shared an idea in Yahoo! on March 19, 2009 12:10:
Yahoo! Mail bugs on Solaris and Linux; Sending e-mails with only BCC: field filled in; returning receipts for received & read mails. The new Yahoo! Mail works fine on Solaris with Firefox. An idea, the left pane should be larger, because on linux and Solaris, the 2 top buttons and the header are not aligned.
Also, one can't send e-mails without the TO: field, but if one selects at least one contact in the CC: or BCC: field, the message already has a recipient, so if I want to send an e-mail to multiple people without showing them each other's mail addresses, having to fill the TO: field may be a problem.
I usually send an e-mail to myself in TO: and others in BCC: but I think is's unnecessary and absurd.
Can you add the option to receive the returning notification if a recipient reads the e-mail?
I think these are the key functions that are missing or uncorrected in Yahoo! Mail, that if are addressed make it excellent!

I didn't say I would send a screen shot but it doesn't really matter if I send the .db file because it's a clean library, created on Songbird's first run. The error keeps on happening even when it creates the profile for the first time!
I ran v1.1.1 on linux already and it worked fine, and I upgraded XP to Vista and the error is the same on every Windows PC I've installed Songbird.
And besides what I wrote before, if I click Continue, the program starts after giving me the message above and if I click "Add-ons" or "Options" in the menu it doesn't open anything.
A comment on the question "Why does Yahoo! Brazil offers POP access in mail and FTP in geocities and U.S. Yahoo! doesn't?" in Yahoo!:
Actually I don't really find justifiable to install a new app just for yahoo mail when I already have Outlook or Evolution installed and I prefer them. As for the e-mail importer, trueswitch offers that but it doesn't support non-standard e-mail addresses for i.e. Hotmail... I use an @live.com.pt Live Mail but trueswitch only supports @live.com addresses :( – Ricardo Moreira, on March 11, 2009 12:29

Well, I started having this problem too right after I upgraded to v1.1.1 on Windows XP (I use it on linux too but I haven't upgraded to 1.1.1 yet) but for me it happens the FIRST time I run Songbird, and repeats every time, even after I delete my profile and I don't even have iTunes installed so it can't be because of it.
If I choose Quit instead of Delete Library I get This message:
[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) [nsIXPCComponents_Utils.import]" nsresult: "0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://songbird/content/scripts/jumpToFile.js :: <top_level> :: line 41" data: no]
I would sent my library but it is always blank, and even if I run it for the first time, without addons or importing files it happens! :( Even with a clean profile.</top_level>

Ricardo Moreira reported a problem in Songbird on January 05, 2009 11:51:
Why doesn't songbird use variables when translating to another language? When translating to another language, in my case, Portuguese, we should translate the English strings, keeping the variables, but when using that language add on, Songbird should say, "... Songbird must be restarted", but it instead says, "... &brandShortName; must be restarted". The &brandShortName; variable is the one used by default, but when translating the program doesn't recognize it as a variable but instead it recognizes it as part of the string.
The problem can be solved by not using that variable, but if Songbird changes name, like firefox did by changing from firebird, then the translation add on will be corrupted.

yeah but then they should offer some option to migrate the account from one branch to another, so we can have the benefits of that service without having to create another account! – Ricardo Moreira, on January 05, 2009 11:39
