A comment on the idea "Editing placemarks" in Brightkite:
Agreed. A lot of the places from which I want to check in aren't on a street, i.e. the lake, swimming spot, hiking areas, bike path, etc. – e_to_the_m, on June 28, 2008 14:34

You can make placemarks with out checking in. Enter the address or buisiness and then click on the "Add to Placemarks" button instead of the "check in here" button – sbergus, on June 08, 2008 03:03

A UK number would be sweet. Twitter use a UK number for most countries.
If BK are looking for a gateway, I'd recommend txtlocal. Incoming SMS is free on a shared number, or £35 a month on a dedicated number. Outgoing SMS is fairly cheap as well (depending on how many you purchase).

How about partnering with Firebot (http://twitter.com/firebot) or Fireball (http://fireballapp.com) ? You've already got Fire Eagle support, so the connection seems to make sense.
