The case number, I believe, is "VIPRE - 001-00-262418". Another key piece of info is that I am running Comodo, Ver 3.5.57173.439. I do NOT have the AV installed, but I do (did) have Defense Plus running. I just shut it down and am attempting another scan. This is happening as I write this. I have learned from Nick Hallin that there is a known issue with running Comodo's Defense Plus plus Vipre. I am testing to see if disabling Defense Plus will work.
My ultimate goal is to find the right combination of Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Firewall that are all top notch workers in their respective fields. CounterSpy is up there. Comodo's firewall is up there. I did have Avira Anti-Vir, but it started giving me false finds so I dumped it. I am trying Vipre and am not sure it is the best (yet). There is a Youtube evaluation (takes several presentations to cover the entire review) and although it worked "pretty well" on this guys plastered machine, it still did NOT remove all the malware (associated w/ having IE redirect when he attempted to go to a known web page). Do you know if this issue has been resolved? What is your take on the best combo Firewall / Antivirus / Antispyware? I'm sure you will point to Sunbelts combo - but I trust Matousec and the Sunbelt Firewall is listed as "not recommended". Sorry. If Sunbelt can improve the product and get it into the "recommended" section of Matousec, I'll be happy to purchase their product.
This is a long entry, but I am still frustrated with trying to get the best (and not necessarily user friendly) combo for my machine.
I've been at this input for over 10 minutes and the Vipre scan is still working. Let's see after it finishes. When I went to "Manage / View History" - it showed that no scan has been performed yet. Possibly because of Defense Plus. It is no longer the issue. Must wait. Later.

A comment on the problem "Apparent SCAN freeze." in Sunbelt Software:
There was nothing displayed in the lower section of the Scan screen. As far as freezing on the same file - I'm pretty sure it did not. Also - the word "freeze" may be misleading - as I mentioned - it appearred to be hung up on a file (which by the time I got to the computer - Vipre should have been completed its scan) - then I clicked on a tab (other than Scan) and it responded. So - the PC was not frozen - Vipre had just (apparently) stopped. When I went back to the Scan tab - it was ready to start over. Hope this helps.
Minor addition - I'm using XP-SP3. Have Comodo as the firewall. No other "protection" software running (that I know of). – Rick, on January 07, 2009 23:09

Apparent SCAN freeze.I have sent this to the tech support folks at Sunbelt - but would like other opinions. I loaded Vipre, updated definitions, requested a deep system scan, and obtained no results. The program "appeared" to hang, but did respond when I clicked on a different tab. Going back to the scan tab - it was ready to restart a scan. Does it not identify what, if anything, it finds after a scan? What am I supposed to see when a scan is complete?
