A comment on the question "How do I merge contacts?" in Soocial:
Yes we are planning this. Should be a few more weeks though... – Stefan Fountain, on August 29, 2008 13:30

What if I know there are a bunch of duplicates in my account that are not being merged? It'd be nice if Soocial gave me an option to find potential duplicates, review them, and merge. Right now I have to manually find duplicates, move data, and delete accounts to clean up my contacts.
Is anything like that planned?

Hi Rick, thanks for the question - now I can tell you how cool Soocial is.. ;-)
Anyway we do exactly what you say would be the ideal situation - that is Soocial does automatic merging behind the scenes. The way it currently works however needs improvement - let me explain.
As soon as any device starts syncing with Soocial a merging job starts to check all *incoming* contacts for duplicates, these are then merged. This is good except that right now it will take a while for this merging to be completed. So basically it's too slow - will take about 30 minutes to a couple hours depending on the amount of contacts. The more you have the longer it will take. This is something we are working hard to improve. The basic idea is good and there are a lot of optimizations we still need to make.
Also we don't currently tell the user adequately what is going on. It should be mentioned somewhere in your account that your account is being checked for dupes. We hope to have a system that works perfectly - but that is unattainable, but we will do our best. If you find that we are merging a contact incorrectly or that we should be merging two contacts - then that's what our http://labs.soocial.com/ is for - so you can test our merging algorithm.
Hope this answers your question.

On http://labs.soocial.com/ you can find a merging tool they are developing for this purpose, don't know the work's but you can see if the outcome is wat you would have expected

How do I merge contacts? In gmail, some of my contacts have multiple different email addresses that show up as separate contacts. Ideally I'd like these addresses to be merged under just the real contact's name. I think Zyb does something like this. Is there a way to do this with Soocial? Ideally it would be somewhat automatic.

I tried a lot of things, including disabling my Symantec Antivirus software. Finally I just completely uninstalled the Symantec Antivirus/Firewall client and then did a fresh install and now it's working. So it seems like something was going wrong in the symantec software somewhere. Thanks for all the help!

I was having the same issue. The proxy was properly configured, and I could do everything fine from firefox, but not from the rescuetime app.
The solution? To uncheck the "Send updates using SSL" box.
Why the issue? Because at work EVERYTHING needs to go through the proxy, including SSL. Is there a way to make SSL go through the proxy? Firefox does it.

Susheel, I'd love to work with you on the network issues that you are seeing with both the Mac and Windows data collector. This is somewhat exciting since we have never been able to reproduce this in any of our testing environments.
Could you email me at team@rescuetime.com with your email information. We can work through the issue through email and then I will post the results of our testing (and hopefully our fix) here.
Thank you!

I am having the same problem. I just downloaded RescueTime and I get Error 3000 when trying to "verify" my account. I am not behind any proxy. Also, when I click on "Check for Updates" it gives me this message:
Error checking for updates, please try again later. Unable to connect to the remote server : System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 64.34.167.25:80
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoConnect(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.InternalConnect(EndPoint remoteEP)
at System.Net.ServicePoint.ConnectSocketInternal(Boolean connectFailure, Socket s4, Socket s6, Socket& socket, IPAddress& address, ConnectSocketState state, IAsyncResult asyncResult, Int32 timeout, Exception& exception)
I also tried the steps listed above (I got "login success!" when testing the link with my account information).
Any thoughts on how I can get RescueTime to communicate with the outside world?
Thanks,
Rick
