Robclock asked a question in StatusNet Inc. on November 02, 2009 18:24:
Posting from a Client Throws an Error Message (in the client)Posting a notification from a client works, but returns error to the client. E.g., When I post from Twhirl, Twhirl returns a message that the posting failed, but the message is posted, and Twhirl picks it up on the next refresh. In Adium, it returns an "Unknown message error" message, but the post goes through.
Any idea what message is (or isn't) being sent back to the client to cause this?
Thanks.
Robclock replied on October 29, 2009 01:17 to the question "How to show subscriptions/subscribers in sidebar" in StatusNet Inc.:
Evan,
Interesting. I was using a slightly modified version of the 'default' theme and every page on the site was showing the export, popular notices, groups with most members, and featured users in the sidebar. I enabled the 'identica' theme and the profile pages started showing the personal info (subscriptions, subscribers, groups, and stats). I switched back to the modified 'default' theme to see what the difference was, and now it shows the personal info as well. Perhaps it was a caching issue.
This site is going to serve mainly as a notification service for our magazine writers and editors to keep up with where stories and issues are in the editing/publishing queue. It's going to have between 9 and 15 users. So showing all members would be a nice capability. (I understand this is not a typical scenario that you would have anticipated.)
On a related note, we are not going to be using groups on this site. Is there a way to globally shut off all reference to the groups feature? (Just a nicety, not a necessity.)
Thanks for your help.

How to show subscriptions/subscribers in sidebarHow, on StatusNet, do you display a user's subscriptions, and/or subscribers, and/or a list of all members of the site, a la identi.ca?

Zach,
Thank you for the quick reply.
Yes, fancy URLs work. I can get to my account page by going to http://mysite/mypath/myusername.

Logging In From Client Fails.I am testing statusnet on a couple of sites. I have two installations with virtually identical configurations: one on bluehost and one on GoDaddy. When I connect to the GoDaddy one from a client (e.g., Adium and qtwitter) the login doesn't work. It keeps asking me to re-enter my credentials. The bluehost site works fine with both clients.

Email integration would make EventBox more useful (particularly if, as Dave suggests, it supports IMAP and POP). Even starting out with support for popular Webmail systems like GMail, YAHOO!, etc. would be a great step--like what Fuser has done, but without all the slow. buggy performance.
Good work, guys.

Robclock replied on March 17, 2009 16:16 to the problem "Feedly telling me I "need" to have Feedly to view an XML file in Flock" in Feedly:
My humblest apologies to the Feedly team. (I should have known you would have more grace than that.) The somewhat presumptuous (and frankly unhelpful) error message was coming from Flock (Firefox) and not from Feedly.
Thank you for your quick and helpful response, and, as always, thank you for an excellent product (can't wait for iPhone version!).
Robclock reported a problem in Feedly on March 17, 2009 14:48:
Feedly telling me I "need" to have Feedly to view an XML file in FlockWhy is Flock (or Feedly within Flock) telling me I need have Feedly to access an XML file? I deactivated Feedly specifically in order to look at the source of the file, but even after deactivating and restarting, Feedly tells me that I "need" to have Feedly to access this type of file.
Regardless of the obvious bug in this approach, I find the message very disingenuous. No one "needs" to have Feedly to look at an XML file. Any browser can open an XML file. Feedly is just hi-jacking that function and holding me hostage.
I'm a *huge* fan of Feedly, but this error message--and in particular the wording of it--is a bit over the top (and genuinely misleading).
Robclock replied on March 16, 2009 13:30 to the idea "I think that a feedly app would be perfect for the iPhone." in Feedly:
I have only paid for one app for my iPhone (Tweetie--well worth it). I would pay $2.99 for a Feedly app that is nearly as full-featured as the Web version. I would be very disappointed if, for instance, the ability to share items through Twitter and Digg was left out, or it didn't have a built-in browser (it would be a pain to have to go to Safari each time you click a link, then re-open Feedly to get back to your feeds). That said, I am sure that a good Feedly app would quickly become the most used app on my phone.
Thanks.

Having the herd down for several days at a stretch really limits the usefulness of Ubiquity. I know it's a beta (or alpha?) project, but it would be nice to at least have a brief explanation/update posted on the herd page (and here).
Ubiquity's a great product that people have begun to incorporate into their routines (that's a big FTW for you guys) and therefore it's more aggravating when we don't know what's going on.
Thanks.-
