This is of course exactly what Rockbox does Its called track gain on shuffle and if shuffle is not selected it uses album gain

Not certain but don't think normalisation is working properly but to be sure if the data found could appear in the metadata display then I would realy know. Replay gain Using foobar2000 and works perfectly in rockbox

Yes as "Colar" says most media players in Linux can do this.
This is a sorely missed feature that songbird needs urgently IMHO, to make what is already a good player, a better one.

Due to a Kamic update there is now an option to browse and set a default player, on player insertion, this now works with songbird – robin0800, on October 21, 2009 12:34

At the moment on Karmic plugging in my player displays a pop up that gives you a choice of players to use Songbird is not in this list. It seams as the original poster asked, that there is no way to make it the default player at present.

Please either update the Linux add-on to do this or perhaps someone could write a new one Wanted for ubuntu Karmic due for release 29/10/2009
