I think you have to be very careful with this Win-amps system of dropping the root directory is if this playlist is copied to a Mp3 player it will have a different root and probably no drive letter.

The good news, once again, is " Rockbox" has already solved this.
Faced with a playlist it crawls along it dropping terms and at each stage comparing it to the file structure on the player, if it finds a match it stops and uses this truncation for the whole playlist. This means usually a Rockboxed Player can play any playlist.

Unless/until Foldersync can do folder to folder sync and not just playlist to folder it's not really suitable. At present I use synctoy in windows.

I personnely hope this doesn't happen soon, as there are a number of significant features of songbird, that are on windows but have not been ported to Linux, proper notifications, tray control and MSC to name three.

While I might except it is non trivial to implement MSC support for linux,from scratch you should not be trying to re-invent the wheel, both Amarok and rhythmbox currently support MSC.

I just double click the "songbird" file and songbird launches.
Also it is easy enough to add it to the menu just point the new menu item to this file, you can use the image in the folder for the menu icon

Yes it is important to me too that songbird is a fully rounded and supported first. Seriously if video appears above Linux and mac support I would not be surprised to find a fork in this project to remedy the shortcomings on Linux at least
