Add Media View Schemes like in J River JukeboxJ River Media Jukebox is probably the best media player out there at the moment (I think most people are put off by the name, it sounds like a piece of junk) but I'd prefer to be using something open source and free like songbird. However Jukebox has features that keep me coming back.
One of the best of these is a thing called 'View Schemes'.
Different 'Views', similar to the library in Songbird, are displayed in a left hand sidebar, just like an explorer window. However, more than one can exist, and each can have different sort/filter parameters. Imagine you could create a second virtual library on songbird, that only contained tracks from your soundtracks folder in your music collection, or totally excluded any audiobooks you have? I have both of these set up in Jukebox, and I find them indispensable. without them my random playlist would be regularly filled with chapters out of the middle of audiobooks, which I obviously don't want.
There's room for all sorts of filters then.
Only list artists who have their own subfolder.
Only list artists who have more than one album
Only list ogg files.
Only list artists in the rock genre
List artists by Rating, Genre or Keyword
Some of this functionality could overlap with the preview panes (ratings, genres etc), but I think its far more intuitive to be able to attach a permanent filter, or view to the sidebar, than having to scroll through preview panes to find one tag. Dragging a tag from a preview pane could even become a way of setting up a view.
to sum up, I'd love to be able to start songbird and go straight to a list of soundtracks

Love this idea, was about to post it myself
like myrkat, I use Mp3Tag. I love how well it works, but it can still be tedious switching the format between %artist% - %title%, %artist%/%track% - %title% etc. I think it could be taken even further, allowing for complex rules to be put in place for renaming. For instance, if a filename stars with two digits and a dash, its 99% likely to be a track-number, not an artist name (in my library at least). In my case, 3 - 4 simple rules would capture 100% of the track data in my library.
@doom0r, does easy tag support something like rules? I must give it a go-

integrate exorcist add-on to the main playerremoving missing files from the library and updating location information should not be something I have to go download an add-on for. SongBird should remove entries from the library that have no corresponding files - e.g: files that have been renamed outside of songbird.

- Specialized rooms (AV room, File Explorer room, Office room, Control room etc.)
I definitely want this. And I want all the rooms on a compiz style cube aswell, or at the very least a cube style switching animation
- Dedicated application launcher (not just icons)
Interesting.... something like rocketdock maybe? Rocketdock works fine for me but it might be nice to have something that ties in to bumptop physics
- Improve visibility of file / icon names if they are too long when 'grid-ing' them
YES!
rory ok replied on November 27, 2008 09:36 to the idea "creating piles from other (named) piles" in BumpTop:
this comes back to the argument about saving piles without altering the file structure. Names piles cannot be included in other piles because named piles are separate folders. if Named Piles were saved some way other than a folder (like an ini file or something) we wouldn't have this problem, and it would mean we could name as many piles as we liked without messing up a preexisting directory structure
