I'm new to Yelp - but I experienced the same thing when I was unwise enough to start a discussion on their Talk section. I'm new to the area and was wanting advice. It's a stupid place to ask for honest advice - I know that now! I'm actually considering deleting my Yelp profile because it was so upsetting to me. I know I shouldn't let it get to me... but being new to an area and getting hostile remarks and/or messages from local natives can be very discouraging and depressing...

It's weird when someone you don't even know goes out of their way to insult you - and there's truly nothing that can be done about it if Yelp isn't moderated. It makes using their site an unpleasant experience.
