RuTemple replied on September 15, 2009 19:37 to the problem "Can't see or drop items" in Gowalla:
If there were five mystery unseeable items when I started, and a theoretical two more were added over the course of my first day, then where did three items go when the four I could see (espresso, water bottle, 97 bottles button, and tacos) showed up this morning some time after 9:30?
Potentially useful clue for programmers: on the iPhone, loading just sat forever and ground away at battery life. On the website, the link went to Error 500: No Process Found with a link to your ISP - hope it helps a little to know what I was seeing at the http://gowalla.com/users/myusername/i... page (the error 500 page did not appear to be a redirect that changed the location URL).
It sure would have been nice to be able to collect the Bluebonnets icon found at the Redwood City Roller Rink and again at the Main Street Coffee Roasters (agree with the person who recommended their pancakes, btw!) - that I couldn't collect due to this software/server error.
Love the game, looking forward to seeing how it shapes up! I'll be off to add the Stone Poem circle at Bayfront Park off Marsh Road & 101 a little later today or tomorrow.-

*baffle?* The entirety of REI offerings is available online at http://rei.com/ -- how is this not access? The seasonal catalogs in print don't have all items, so just pdf-ing those pages wouldn't give as complete a set of items as the website...
REI should not be Sears - it's not a catalog-driven mail-order biz, even if it handles mail- and special orders well.
You can reset your catalog receive/don't receive preference at the website, or at any store. Signing up for GearMail (info, new gear, current hot and/or sale items) is a whole separate step.
fine print? I'm an employee, but I speak only from my own experience & info and not officially for anyone else.-

the one-time fee went up to $20 at the start of 2008; first rise in a looong time. Very much worthwhile; definitely pays for itself.
Some o' the benefits of joining this member coop:
10% dividend on all full-price items you buy in a year (comes out annually)
Several 20% coupons during the year
Two major sales/year: anniversary (May 2-11, 2008 = 70 years) and fall
Used gear "garage sale" for members only: returns that are still usable, promo pieces, etc. up to 70% off, check your local store for when these happen; in the Bay Area, they're staggered to different days of the month for the different local stores.
Discounts on the Outdoor School (in-store classes, and short local trips) -- many of which are alreay free, grin!
If you lose your receipt, you can still return stuff if you need to, since REI's record-keeping is your proof o' purchase.
If you lose or forget your member card, they can always look you up by phone # or name.
Love these folks: from the search for a better ice axe in 1938, on down to now, the gear is worth that 100% guarantee.
Being privately held, they get to keep to that long-term planning, good in the long long run for biz.
Fine print: I started working with REI this past spring on the customer service / cashier line, so I'm probably biased, but these are among the reasons I chose this place to work PT. Nice spread of folks/age ranges to work with.
