Thats a very good point that was overlooked, thanks for the feedback. I like the system you recommended. Another possible simple fix is just a couple of sort by links. Sort by: Highest Rated, Newest, etc.
Or have 3 reviews reviews at the top be highly rated while below it are the newest (kind of like a sponsored search listing / organic search listing structure). Also, if a review becomes so outdated that it is no longer relevant (due to program updates/new versions), I would hope that users would click the thumbs down and move its ranking.

Personal Platform usage for AppsYou know that handy little Platform usage graph that shows the percentage of use for each platform that the app runs on. Would it be difficult to get us a personal bar under Personal Information? It'd be great to see which apps spend more time using on Linux than Windows and so on. Just an idea.

I did notice an error with the Flash advertisements on the website. They are set to window mode (also the default mode) so the flash layer is above all other layers of the website. If you view an image, the flash will cover the lightbox-type image display. If you guys could add wmode="opaque" to the flash so it is actually part of the page and the images will display over it?
Screen shot is attached.
A comment on the update "Tell us what you want on your user profile!" in Wakoopa:
Perhaps you could add some type of "Showcase" to user profiles. If you do not develop any software, it will not be displayed on your profile. If you chose to populate the area with software you develop(ed) then the box/area will be displayed? Those who do not develop may hardly notice the area while developers may enjoy it.
As for showing a development team, couldn't the current group feature be used for that? – rygetz, on April 21, 2009 19:09

While I agree it can be annoying to have all these "tmp" files and nonsense programs listed... It is just as easy to pause the tracker. Yes you may lose out on 5 seconds of using an additional program but really.. is that 5 seconds that important?
The problem I see with setting an overall time limit for apps would be that some applications I would like listed so I can keep track of them, but I may only use them for seconds at a time. For example, the string replacement software I use at work.. I use for less than 5 seconds at a time. Do I still want to track it for my own records? Absolutely. A client-side blacklist like batkra suggested would be a nice feature to see so you can easily block programs you don't want to show.
However, you have the option to hide any programs you don't want shown. It's a simple thing to do and honestly does not take that long. In addition to the pause feature of the tracker Wakoopa has given you the power to customize exactly what is shown.

Great Idea, I would love to see some way to separate by platform. Also, maybe some way of seeing our history for submitted application info and screen shots. Maybe some way of showing when you use the most (morning, afternoon, evening, night)? Not sure exactly how that would be done off the top of my head or if the tracker supports the kind of information. Again not sure if the tracker supports it, or if anyone else is curious but it might be cool to see how often programs are run. This would help show some of the useful/important programs you use that may be for extremely short periods of time. I had a few other ideas.. I'll post again if I can remember them. Keep up the outstanding work with the website.
rygetz replied on March 25, 2009 16:56 to the question "Winzip and WinRAR tracking" in Wakoopa:
The search isn't always, "accurate." I have had no problems tracking WinRAR or 7zip. Keep in mind though, it just tracks the time that you are active in the window, so if you extract a file and pull up firefox while it is running... You'll only see a couple seconds or so of usage time. I have had accurate tracking though for both applications.
rygetz replied on March 25, 2009 16:51 to the problem "Slow description review process" in Wakoopa:
What about getting some Overlords/Fanatics who seem to be involved, active on the website, and trustworthy to volunteer to manually check some descriptions? Could be more work/trouble than its worth but it could also help speed things up and take some of that work load off of you guys. Add a quick tag to show who approved it... if a "moderator/reviewer" is approving information that shouldn't be approved, it should be reported and you can disable their privileges. Just a thought.
rygetz replied on March 25, 2009 16:40 to the idea "Internal Bookmarks" in Wakoopa:
Agreed. Adding a simple icon or text link that says "View all tags" would be extremely simple and effective. As far as I know, I don't believe that there is one anywhere on the site. I think that you can reach it by clicking on the tag name of a program you've tagged... but to do that you first have to find a program that you've tagged.

Digg style "reviews" / Useful Reviews stay on Page 1I like useful software reviews. When the user takes the time to tell me a little about the software in the review, it helps to give a better idea what the software is like than the software description alone. Yet, there are so many users who post one word reviews or basically worthless reviews (probably for points). Sometimes these help give you a general idea about a flaw or that users do like the software, but I'd rather read an insightful comment/review. What if a system like Digg was put into place? Many other websites use similar systems. If you read a helpful review you click a thumbs up. If it is not so helpful, a thumbs down. Thumbs up adds a point. Thumbs down subtracts a point. This would keep helpful reviews within sight and at the top so users can benefit from them.
Currently, I see about 15 reviews/page. You could also easily separate this (without taking more space) into "Helpful Reviews" and "Recent Reviews" to encourage users to continue to post updated reviews. Just an idea to help increase the benefit from a great system already in place.

I agree. I do my best to enter information for applications that have not be filled out yet, or have outdated descriptions. This can take a lot of time to find and enter all of the data correctly so it is useful to those who may not have heard about a program. It would be really nice to have some soft of acknowledgment that the information I entered has been accepted... other than checking it a few days later to see if it appears. Even a short message saying "Your program information for Program XYZ has been accepted" or "Your screen shot for Program XYZ has been approved" in your dashboard, would at least know that spending a few hours completing information on the site has paid off.-
