An update for StudentDocket has been releasedWe've just wrapped up and released an update for StudentDocket, bringing us to version 2.0.005! We're proud to announce the following changes:
* All new timeline view!
* increased performance substantially
* enhanced interface should make things easier to read and more clear
* more user-friendly dates for items due in the current week
* classes are now displayed in order of occurrence, meaning your next class shows up at the top of the list!
* several user experience improvements should make using StudentDocket even easier!
Bug Fixes
* weekly repeat rule now uses trackball instead of space bar
* StudentDocket now advances to the current week as time goes on
* Pearl hotkeys now work correctly!
Hot Keys (for those of you not already familiar with them)
S | New Class (L for Pearl/Flip users)
T | New Task
P | New Project
D | Shows all Tasks due Today
W | Shows all Tasks due this Week
M | Shows all Tasks due this Month
A | Shows all Tasks

We hope you guys like it! Personally, we're loving the increased performance and more user-friendly dates. Makes checking out my assignments on the go a breeze. Up next for StudentDocket will hopefully be some love for all you Storm users out there!

Ryan replied on December 15, 2008 23:26 to the question "StudentDocket should work on a Blackberry without internet, right?" in StudentDocket:
Sorry Patrick, we had responded privately to Kiara's e-mail for support, and this must have fallen through the cracks. StudentDocket does NOT require an internet connection to use once it has been installed.
Installing StudentDocket can either be done Over-the-Air by visiting http://m.studentdocket.com, or manually by visiting http://www.StudentDocket.com/download from your desktop computer.
Installing manually via any desktop computer will not require any internet on your BlackBerry device, but the OTA method will use your BlackBerry browser and does.

Hey Kandye,
Actually, we've considered making an Android version of StudentDocket in the past, but weren't sure on how the demand would shape up. We'd love to get some more feedback about how other users feel about this option?
So what do you guys think, Android version anyone?
Thanks for bringing this option back to our attention!

Ryan replied on December 10, 2008 04:21 to the question "Does StudentDocket work fully with the BlackBerry Storm?" in StudentDocket:
We're working on a BlackBerry Storm compatible version of StudentDocket, and are hoping to have it out before too long. There's no firm date just yet though. I can keep this topic updated with the Storm version's progress as we get closer to a release date.
This update WILL be free for current StudentDocket users. Just because we're jealous of your Storm doesn't mean we'll be leaving you out in the cold! :-P
Ryan replied on October 08, 2008 21:37 to the question "[Bug] Dismissed reminders continue to pop up (MANY of them)" in StudentDocket:
Is the second recurring event setup using similar repeat details but works just fine? Have you recreated the offending event and had it repeat the constant reminders?
Sorry for all the questions, we're trying to find out if this is just a random problem or a consistent one. Random problems are quite a bit harder to track down and fix.
Thanks for your continued patience and assistance!

You can currently change tasks into projects by opening them up, pressing the Blackberry key, and selecting "set as project". Is this the kind of functionality you were looking for?
As for new tasks automatically being set for the class selected. I could have sworn this was implemented in the original release, it's possible we've accidently broken it along the way. I'll look into it...
The last one there is a great usability suggestion, we'll look into it for the next major release.
Thanks!

Ryan replied on September 27, 2008 23:53 to the question "If I update will I lose my entries!?" in StudentDocket:
Hey Navan,
As long as you have a recent version of StudentDocket installed (anything after the name change from StudentBerry to StudentDocket should be fine), then you shouldn't lose your data. Just to be safe, however, we recommend that you perform a backup of your StudentDocket data before updating if possible.
To do this, you will need to launch your BlackBerry Desktop Manager and select Backup. You will then need to select the StudentDocket databases and manually move them over to your backup file. From this time on, as far as I understand, StudentDocket should be backed up automatically whenever you backup all your other data.
Performing regular backups will also help you ensure that you don't lose any data the next time you update the OS. I should probably take my own advice though, seeing as I've had to re-enter my data a few times myself this semester ;-).

Ryan replied on September 26, 2008 20:17 to the question "Project Task Not Appearing" in StudentDocket:
Just so I understand a little better, you've created a project and assigned several tasks to that project, but it isn't showing up on screen? Is it the project showing up but isn't listing the next required action? Or is the project not showing up at all?
If the project isn't showing up at all, this is most likely due to not setting the "Reminder Date" correctly. the reminder date sets the date that the project begins showing up. if the current date range includes or is after this date, it will show on the screen.
If the project is showing up, but not the next action, that's most definitely a case of a program bug. If this is the case please let us know you're OS and carrier version and we'll look into it right away.
Having typed this, it seems a little counter-intuitive having the begin reminding date for projects. Maybe it would be a lot more user-friendly to just show the project when the earliest task is included in the date range. Any input on this?

Hey James,
We're actually considering removing the office hours questions from the next release. We like the feature, but feel that it's a little too limited right now (as you observed).
Instead, our current plan is to replace it with a "notes" section. Doing so would allow you to store as many office days as you'd like, as well as other relevant information.
Any feedback on this change is greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone!
Thanks for the contributions, just a few questions about what we've got so far.
@iruiz: thanks for the representation of what you're looking for. we're trying to implement something along these lines, but it won't look exactly like that. Hopefully you guys will like what we've come up with. With regards to reminders. It's currently possible to setup reminders for tasks and projects. To do so, simply set the Reminder option to whenever you'd like to have a notification pop up. Is this not the kind of solution you were looking for?
@Navan: You can hide/unhide completed assignments by pressing the Blackberry button and selecting "Hide Completed". Once Hidden, repeat the process by select "Show Completed". Alternatively, you can also remove all completed tasks/projects using the same procedure.
We're working on quite a few changes to StudentDocket right now, hopefully you'll like what we've come up with. Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'em coming!

How can we make StudentDocket easier to use?Hey everyone!
We've been getting some great suggestions lately through both GetSatisfaction and our private support system found at www.StudentDocket.com/support. We'd like to thank you all for the contributions and remind you that, yes, we are listening.
While feature requests are great, we'd also like to get some feedback on how we can make StudentDocket easier to use, more intuitive, and easier to integrate with your student life.
For example, the create class screen seems pretty confusing to me at times, so one of the things we're looking to improve is the way this screen is displayed. We're also trying to find a more intuitive way to organize the icon bar along the top so that it displays correctly on both larger and smaller BlackBerry devices.
So let us know, how would you change StudentDocket?
