Hey everyone!
I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys on this one. We had a few issues jump up on us that took a little more time to fix than we had originally thought. The release isn't QUITE ready for prime-time just yet, but we're going to go ahead and point you guys in the direction of our beta copy. It's stable, and shouldn't give you any problems. What we're working on now is some improved formatting for all you pearl users out there!
From Your Blackberry head to: http://www.studentdocket.com/beta
If you'd like to wait for the official release of this patch, we recommend that you subscribe to our e-mail notification list at http://www.StudentDocket.com. you can also follow us on twitter over at http://www.twitter.com/tgqe. we'll be updating everyone using both methods as soon as the stable release is out!
We hope school is going well, thanks for your continued patience!
Ryan replied on August 22, 2008 17:37 to the question "I can't install it!" in StudentDocket:
Which version of the BlackBerry OS are you currently using? You can find out by opening your options->about. The "please visit page from BlackBerry" message sounds like you're using OS 4.5+. If this is the case, please be advised that StudentDocket does not formally support this OS just yet. You can visit the "stop/start time error" thread on GetSatisfaction to find out why. Support for 4.5+ should be out within the next day or so, as we're just trying to iron out a few more bugs before we release it.
You should, however, still be able to install by manually selecting the StudentDocket version you'd like to try out. a 406 error is most likely a server issue, something we've been experiencing quite a bit of lately. I just tried installing on my own device and it seems to be working now. Please give it a shot if you can.
We recommend that you sign up for e-mail updates on our site: www.studentdocket.com so that we can notify you when a newer version of StudentDocket is ready!
Ryan replied on August 20, 2008 14:33 to the discussion "Updating to the newest version of StudentDocket (From StudentBerry)" in StudentDocket:
Hey Hitman,
The StudentDocket installation files shouldn't need to be re-registered, but please keep in mind that depending on version you're moving from (prior to version 1.0.803068), you will lose your class and assignment data. Let us know which version you have (BlackBerry button -> about from within StudentDocket) and we can help you figure out if this will be an issue.
If you do have issues with losing your registration information, please send us a private support ticket at http://www.StudentDocket.com/support and we'll do our best to help you get it worked out! Thanks!

It should be. We've fixed the actual problem, and are now beta testing it to ensure no other problems were created. expect a fix within the next day or so! – Ryan, on August 19, 2008 17:42
Ryan replied on August 14, 2008 03:09 to the question "Grades" in StudentDocket:
Hey Tammy,
This has been on our list since the beginning. We haven't quite found a way to implement grade tracking in the blackberry that's even remotely intuitive. With all the different methods teachers use for grading and all the different ways to present the information we just haven't found anything that fits just yet. We're working on it though. Thanks for the suggestion!
Ryan replied on August 14, 2008 03:06 to the question "Using repeat rule for same class, later on in the same week?" in StudentDocket:
Just so it's a little more clear, StudentDocket currently supports having a class show up on multiple days each week as long as you don't mind them occurring at the same TIME each day it occurs. We're working on implementing a system for different times each day.
To implement a class multiple days per week simply launch the create/edit class screen, select the repeat function, highlight the days you'd like to add and press the "space" bar. You can add the class to as many days per week as you'd like using this method.
If you're looking to add a class on different times each day, then I'm afraid Andrews correct and we're not quite there yet. As for when, we're not quite sure yet unfortunately. Hopefully though Luke!

Back to the drawing board, though we'll be looking into fixing the teacher problem as well. There shouldn't be any conflicts or "work-arounds" in my mind.
I'd like to thank you all again for your continued patience and all your help while we work this one out. It's pretty difficult to pinpoint seeing as we can't duplicated it. Luke, any chance I can get an e-mail with the EXACT OS number you're working on? It would really help us out a lot.

There most definitely is. The easiest way is to visit our site at http://www.StudentDocket.com/support. At the bottom of the page is a link for private support tickets. All support tickets are sent directly to a member of our team.
direct e-mail can be sent to support@(our product name).com (I apologize for the extra hassle there, but you know how it goes!). I'd be happy to respond to any e-mail inquiries as quickly as possible!

Updating to the newest version of StudentDocket (From StudentBerry)Just a quick note on how to upgrade to StudentDocket from previous versions of StudentBerry.
Please note that, unfortunately, upgrading to StudentDocket from older versions of StudentBerry will result in a loss of saved data. This is because we've implemented a new backup feature using the Blackberry desktop manager that required some database changes. Later versions of StudentBerry, however, will transfer all data just fine.
By far, the easiest way to upgrade StudentDocket is to visit our OTA install site at http://m.StudentDocket.com. Simply follow the steps provided and you'll be done in no time! Your phone will present you with the option to upgrade each of the files within StudentDocket individually. It's a little inconvenient, but please select "yes" to each file. Failure to do so will result in an error message the first time you launch StudentDocket.
To install using your desktop computer, you will need to begin by removing StudentDocket (or StudentBerry) from your devce. This can be done by selecting options->advanced options->applications You can then highlight StudentDocket (or StudentBerry), and select "delete". Once this is done, simply reinstall StudentDocket using your Desktop Manager and USB Cable. Failure to remove StudentDocket prior to installation will result in several of the StudentDocket files not updating correctly, leading to some error messages when you go to run the application.
If you are already experiencing some error messages when launching StudentDocket, simply perform any of the options above in the correct order and the problem should be fixed! We apologize for any inconvenience, we're working on a more user-friendly solution.
Ryan replied on August 04, 2008 20:22 to the idea "3 simple ideas to gain at least 1 customer." in StudentDocket:
Thanks for the suggestions, we've looked into many of these in the past with the following conclusions:
1) Previous versions of StudentDocket had time increments for classes, assignments, and projects set to 15 minute intervals, but users complained that this did not provide them with enough control over the time. To try and keep the application user-friendly for all of our users, we implemented single-minute time changes with the ability to manually input whatever time you'd like. This can be accomplished by selecting the "minutes" portion of the time, and simply entering in the minutes you'd like using your key pad (45 for example). Is this the kind of solution you're looking for?
2) It's great to get some feedback from actual Pearl users! Not having one ourselves, we weren't sure if this would cause any usability limitations. Initial feedback suggested it did not, but we're always open to improvements. Any ideas on which icon you'd like to see removed? our initial thoughts were that the 'add class' function would be missed the least of the available options.
3) StudentDocket does currently have a "view tomorrow" feature that can be implemented in any of the following ways: a) Press the BlackBerry button on your phone, and select "View Tomorrow" from the available options. b) press the "Today View" icon along the top row, and then press the "next" arrow to move to tomorrow's view. c) if you mean view both today and tomorrow's assignments, you can press the Blackberry button, and select "Next X days". You can then enter "2" into the field provided to view both today and tomorrow's assignments.
Please let me know if these are suitable solluions. if not, we'd love to hear how you'd smooh them out a bit! Optimisation for the Pearl is something we've been working on a bit already, so it's great to get some feedback on that front. Thanks again!

that's how the inititial screen is supposed to look, yes. If you fill out all of the details but do nothing with the repeat rule, it should save just fine. If you do use the repeat rule, then it should slide down further options including setting an end date. This end date must be later than the Date Time field. Is this the case?
This was a bit of a limitation we encountered with the BlackBerry API that we could not find any way around. We're definitely open to any ideas on how to make this page more intuitive and user-friendly.
Ryan replied on July 30, 2008 22:32 to the problem "Error "Start time and end time can not be the same"" in StudentDocket:
The particular error that you're receiving is generally encountered while trying to set a repeat rule for a class without setting an end date. We have been unable to duplicate your error message without this being the case. Are you currently using the repeat rule for a class? If so, does it show an option for an end date? I apologize for asking so many questions, but without knowing any specifics about your situation, we are having some trouble duplicating the issue.

Not a problem Luke, we'll do our best to look into the problem. Any chance I could find out which site you downloaded your version of StudentDocket from? Mobihand, Handango, or StudentDocket.com? If you are unsure, you can press the blackberry button, and select "about" from within StudentDocket. There you should see a link for more information. Which site are you being told to visit? Thanks!

StudentDocket is now on GetSatisfaction!StudentDocket has decided to go a new direction with their customer support system. While the forums over at StudentBerry (back before the name change!) were great and allowed us to communicate with you guys pretty effectively, it just didn't have some of the features we desired. Also, the upkeep was less than fun, and took away from our StudentDocket development time quite a bit.
Enter GetSatisfaction, a cool new alternative that allows our little community to stay connected, while also providing a level of transparency and freedom only offered by a third party solution. We'd love to hear how you guys feel about the new system, so let us know!
Feel free to post all of your suggestions, comments, problems, solutions, etc.. in here, we'll be monitoring it actively and chirping in whenever necessary!
