The need is there for an appilcation on all four of the major mobile platforms right now (Java, Blackberry, IPhone, and Windows Mobile). After all, a MOBILE centric service should cater to MOBILE users...

I've created a simple little blackberry application that will display where you are currently checked in at and allow you to check-in only at your placemarks. Its called BBPlacemarks and you can find it here: http://bbrtm.org/bbplacemarks/

I am teaming up with someone so hopefully we can add more features to the application and actually create a full fledged brightkite blackberry application. Hopefully the current version will tide you over for a bit...

At first it did not work for me when entered my Canadian mobile number properly in full (with the +1). I tried again with just ten digits and it worked perfectly. (This must be a bug of some sort.)

Despite the claims on the Brightkite website that Brightkite doesn't work outside the US I am able to successfully use the SMS service here in Calgary, Alberta. I use Fido (which is owned by Rogers) so it might actually be a service-by-service issue (eg. I can't imagine Bell letting anyone else use their network). I thought someone at Brightkite should know their lovely product does indeed work up here in "America's Hat".

I definitely want a BB app for this. I use TwitterBerry and the BB Facebook app all the time, and I'd use BK much more if I had an app for it instead of the WAP site.

One clarification: why then are some BB models listed as compatible in the Soocial web interface? Some interoperability must exist then? Any idea if I choose one of them I can get sync working on the Pearl, potentially?

All Blackberry phones right now are not supported directly, it's not just the Pearl. We are working on a native Blackberry client - drop a line to support@soocial.com with your email to be notified when it's released.

How come the Blackberry Pearl 8130/8100 isn't listed as one of the Soocial-compatible cellphones? Hard to believe there's a huge difference in contact management/connectivity between it and other recent Blackberry models.

I have a twitter application on my crackberry, and a facebook app, I think it would make sense to have a blackberry app as well.
