Sachin Garg replied on October 16, 2009 15:22 to the problem "No support for .cr2?" in Rawzor:
Rawzor supports Canon 5D .cr2 files. Please take care that you need to select the folder/directory which has the images you want to compress (not the individual images).
Rawzor will then compress the images in that folder to destination folder and copy the non-image files. Let me know if it still doesn't work for you.

Sachin Garg replied on September 15, 2009 16:00 to the question "Scripting or command line arguments for Rawzor?" in Rawzor:
The SDK download on developers page includes command-line 'decompressors' for windows, linux and mac.
We are currently about to release GUI application for mac, I will make sure command-line compression gets included in the release after this (which should be soon, you can subscribe to our blog's rss or email updates to get notified about it).

It will be great if you can drop an email or forum message to faststone developers. I will be happy to work with them to help then integrate our free sdk but they need to know that 'their' users want this feature. So it will help if you contact them.
Yes, Rawzor is totally safe. It might fail to compress some of your raw files if it doesn't understand them but if it did compress them it will definitely be able to decompress them. There are thousands of internal checks to make sure your files are completely safe.
Sachin Garg replied on April 12, 2009 19:36 to the idea "select only some file in a folder to compress/decompress" in Rawzor:
1) We are working on adding Rawzor option to right click menu of windows explorer (like winzip and 7zip do). I think that would be easier for you, will you still need selecting-some-files feature after that?
2) For previews, a lot of software support Rawzor's. rwz files, like xnview, RawTherapee etc... we are working with more software developers for this.
3) We have a "Destination same as source location" option in rawzor. We can add a 'Delete source files" option and then together it should give you the 'replace' option you want. Will this work for you?
Thanks a lot for your time.

For XnView, you will need to install the plugin from
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic...
About file weight when extracting thumbnail, Rawzor extracts only the thumbnail but creates the whole raw file with meta data and preview (with no raw data) so that the software can find the thumbnail in the same location inside the raw file where it expects it.
The thumbnail extraction is very fast, I will verify in these software the APIs they are using to make sure they are not accidentally using the full extraction where its not needed, Thanks for the bringing this up.

Thanks for sharing your views, I will look in more detail into this option.
Applications should be able to get the embedded preview from inside compressed .rwz files without any speed overhead. I will get in touch with Konvertor team on potential crashes and speed issues. Thanks for bringing this to my notice.
Sachin Garg replied on March 04, 2009 15:08 to the idea "Preview image for Rawzor file" in Rawzor:
Moriss, thanks for sharing your idea. I believe your goal here is to be able to see preview images in windows explorer. And you are trying to achieve this by adding a small jpeg image to the beginning of your .rwz file.
As you have noticed, you will then not be able to extract the .rwz file because it changes the file's internal bytes and Rawzor can no longer find the compressed data it needs.
However, the good news is that we are working on a solution for this problem.
As you probably already know, all raw images already have a thumbnail and preview inside them which is used to show their quick preview on camera screen and in windows explorer (if you have the camera manufacturer's software installed).
In the compressed .rwz file, Rawzor retains that original thumbnail and we are working on a plugin for windows using which you will be able to see your thumbnails just like see them for your original raw images. It should be ready for release within a month or so.
In the meanwhile, you can use XnView (free), RawTherapee (free), or Konvertor (paid) to browse your images with thumbnails. All these software support .rwz format images. If you face any problems with these software, you can ask here or at forums of these software, we will all be glad to help you.
Also, if you still feel that adding a small jpeg to the beginning of .rwz file is a better solution and that we should consider doing that within Rawzor, let me know.
Thanks again for sharing your idea.-

Sachin Garg replied on October 20, 2008 14:31 to the question "Open Source decompressor needed!" in Rawzor:
Steffen, I agree with the need to have a fully interoperable format which can work with all the applications.
While I am not sure about open-sourcing Rawzor, I like your idea of having a just-a-simple-decompressor which can be open-source. That will need some time and effort but definitely something that can be considered, thanks.
In the meantime, I have been happily sharing format details with anyone who wants to support the format and finds the current sdk too restrictive.
Thanks again for the great tip, and for your interest in Rawzor :-)
Sachin Garg replied on October 08, 2008 15:05 to the question "Will DNG be supported in the near future?" in Rawzor:
@Guest
The internal algorithm of DNG and CR2 is 'exactly' the same. The space savings you see when converting from CR2 to DNG is due to the embedded jpeg which is pretty big in CR2 files and DNG drops it (or replaces it with a light-weight version depending on the options you pick). Would you like a similar feature in Rawzor?
Regarding workflow, Rawzor is new and I am sure that if you guys like it then other companies will support the format in their software. You can try talking to them at the forums of software you use. I would also be interested in hearing what they say but if I go and talk to them myself, it will look like spammish self-promotion ;-)
Sachin Garg replied on October 07, 2008 19:52 to the question "Are there any plans for ACD See or PhotoShop plugins?" in Rawzor:
I don't think Photoshop plugin is possible. Adobe's Camera Raw (ACR) is itself a Photoshop plugin and its not possible to build a plugin for a plugin.
ACDSee, I like their product but haven't explored their plugin architecture yet, will check it out.
I would suggest/request that you drop a message to ACDSee and Adobe forums and support, there is no reason for them to not add native support for the format other than knowing if 'their' users want it :-)
I will be happy to help them if needed.
