Sam reported a problem in Songbird on October 22, 2009 22:03:

Ratings not writing to m4a (aac) files despite being able to change other metadata.

I'm running Songbird on Ubuntu from the Songbird Daily PPA (v1.5). Although m4a metadata can now be edited :D Songbird is still not writing ratings for m4a files, although it is for mp3s. Is this just an oversight or is it a problem that still needs to be fixed?

Of course the images are a bit graphic intense. I would probably prefer a toned down version, even just a text list as a proof-of-concept would be great if anyone is willing to do it.

Hey guys,
I think it would be a great idea to have a kind of 'home page' when you start Songbird. Perhaps where you could have links (preferably with album/artist art) to a couple of your favourite albums, artists, playlists etc. Also a place where you could 'pin' a few songs that you're into at the time and a short list of recently played tracks.

This idea has shamelessly come from trying out the Zune software (I heard their auto playlist feature was good, which it actually is). I've put some images below:




I'm not a programmer but I guess this could be done with an addon. I just think it's a useful idea, because it's just a more visual way of accessing your favourite music.

A comment on the idea "Album art media view ideas" in Songbird:

I have to agree. Although the Zune software is majorly bloated I love the interface. Whitespace is a much nicer way of seperating the songs. – Sam, on October 16, 2009 02:25

Better Tag Support?

Support all of iTunes basic tags on the Get Info tab (such as Grouping etc.) Or even better, support MP4 files as well. I store my ratings under the Grouping tag as I don't use it for anything else, and it's nice to have it stored on the file... and I'd like to do the same with Songbird!
