Tweak to Visibility of a Shizzow Account

kudos on the re-ablement of the gtalk im feed
I find the messages in it very useful and it is interesting to follow the 'story' they tell.

was curious if anyone else would find it useful to have an intermediate 'Visibility' setting for a Shizzow account.
"Allow all my messages to be public but only share my geo data with my friends"
Or even change the Shizzow policy to state that all messages are public unless you have a private account (like twitter).

might be interesting to 'listen' to all the conversations on shizzow, and then get the addtion of geodata for your friends

I checked the XMPP server and overall it looks good. Its certainly sending messages.
I'll dig in further and see why donpdonp is getting no XMPP love.

Is it the case that they do not appear in your shouts list on the website but you remember shouting from the place earlier?

We've had a task logged for that (unknown to Dawn).
We are making an effort to refactor to a more compliant REST API by converting all calls that mutate the Model to corresponding POST PUT DELETE calls.

we do plan to use OAuth for the parts of the API that require authentication/authorization.
We want to align ourselves with Open Standards as much ass possible and it looks like OAuth is becoming just that in the auth realm

I switched over to iChat (I normally use Adium), and I am getting shouts from the people I listen to (using iChat)

At this point don't worry about the "Waiting for Authorization" message.
To date, we are using xmpp (jabber) in a non traditional way with the fact that Shout talks to you, but you don't talk to Shout (so Shout doesn't bother to authorize you to do that)

We do in the future plan to allow inbound xmpp (Shout from IM) and at that point you will see the "Waiting for Authorization" go away.

Back to the issue though, Let me know if you still are not receiving shouts through iChat.

Resources on the shz servers looks good so I do think it is a network latency issue. Could possible be on our side though, so we will keep an eye on it.

not so worried about "bot offline" at this point as we are not reacting to inbound xmpp.
The "getting blasted with shouts" when you return from being offline is an issue though. I've opened a task in our work queue.

with our current plan you would see an open standards Shizzow API that would allow other sites to access your data (at your discretion of course). We will continue to investigate FE integration though, especially if they continue to gain traction.

Fire Eagle has always been on the radar.
We will in the near future dig into it a bit deeper and determine if it is truly a good match for the goals of shizzow. If it is we'll certainly put as much effort into integrating it as we can.

I turned off "store and forward" on the shizzow xmpp server.

firefox style auto complete would be sweet and is certainly a valid feature request.
I could see an initial autocomplete for at least your favorites or most recent places.

Grouping on the site has been discussed quite a bit between the developers when creating the app. It tends to be the natural evolution whenever you have members on a web application. We feel we still need to fine tune the current 1 to 1 membership on the site before diving into groups. My guess is we will eventually get into groups of some type though. A great benefit to groups will empowering the members to get more creative with the site (flash-mobs, events planning, etc)
