Santi replied on September 17, 2009 15:09 to the problem "Cannot select horizontal rule widget" in Balsamiq:
After more use of Balsamiq I have found the bulk of the issue in the register nag screen.
How to replicate:
1. Place a widget (any widget) on the bottom left corner of your screen (or any place else you can remember later).
2. Begin dragging the widget to the top right corner.
2. The nag screen appears before you release the widget.
3. The widget will appear to have moved.
4. Click on the widget: nothing happens.
5. Click on the bottom left corner where the widget used to be.
You will now notice that the widget will remain in place and appear greyed, while the selection box with the resizing handles will appear where the object used to be (what I've been calling hitbox so far). Moving the widget from the selection box fixes the issue.
I think evaluating users will have, by the fifth minute, finished to place widgets and will be moving things around. Should the nag screen appear as they move things around, they will experience this problem. The probability of triggering this bug is thus high, although this is really only a problem if you are actually using an unregistered copy of Balsamiq to do real work.
A possible workaround could be to delay the nag screen after the widget moving action is complete, or to simply drop the widget being moved just before displaying the message.-
Santi started following the idea "Text formatting helper" in Balsamiq.
Santi reported a problem in Balsamiq on September 14, 2009 20:11:
Cannot select horizontal rule widgetI am using an unregistered copy of Balsamiq version 1.6.33 Air on Windows Vista. I had the same problem with the 'live' version running at http://www.balsamiq.com/demos/mockups....
When I add an horizontal rule to my mockup I find myself unable to select it. Clicking directly over it 'clicks through' and selects what's beneath. Drawing a box around it doesn't do the trick either.
I once managed selected it by chance; the 'hitbox' (the area I could select the widget) did not overlap with the widget itself at all. I have now trouble replicating the behaviour.
Following is the XML code associated with the horizontal bar I cannot seem to touch:
<control controlID="7" controlTypeID="com.balsamiq.mockups::HRule" x="251" y="144" w="385" h="-1" measuredW="100" measuredH="5" zOrder="4" locked="false" isInGroup="-1"/>
