Forcing IE 7 to open links in the current windowWe use IE 7 as the default browser. And have set the "Open links from other programs in" to "A new tab in the current window"
However, when other applications try to open a link, it always brings a new IE window, instead of a new TAB in the current window.
It seems like the "Open links from other programs in" setting in IE is not taking effect. Probably a bug???
How can we force IE to open new links in the current window as new tabs?
We have apps that open multiple links at the same time, this causes the desktop to clutter up.
Thanks

mailto using GoogleTalk/Notifier not working after enabling Offline mode on Windows XP + IE 7OS: Windows XP
Browser: IE 7/8
After we enabled Offline mode in GMail using IE 7, the the mailto: using Google Talk or Notifier is no longer working on any of our machines machine.
Any mailto: link simply opens up the Gmail Inbox, instead of a pre-populated Compose Window.
The POST message (params) for mailto: is getting dropped off from the URL, during the following transaction:
TokenAuth -> OfflineLogin -> login_complete.
Please help!!!

Multi-factor authentication for Google OpenID Federated Login APIMulti-factor authentication options for Google OpenID Federated Login API.
As most of you are aware that Google has extended the Google OpenID Federated Login API to the Google Apps Premium Account holders. My question is what options do I have for using multi-factor
authentication instead of the default Google Apps static passwords?

I uploaded a pptx to presentio, it is amazing! And simple to use. No login required. The in-line viewers are very very useful. Way way better than Google Doc's "View Together" mode in presentations. "View Together" essentially offers the same basic functionality as presentio, but lacks the support for media (audio/video) files and does not feature "free teleconferencing". Also, to use the "View Together" in Google Docs, the attendees need to sign-up for a Google Account.
However, I would be more comfortable with storing confidential data in Google Apps than in presentio. For e.g. I would never upload a presentation containing Intellectual Property to presentio :)
Anyone wanna guess how long before Google Doc catches up with presentio?
Note: I was unable to use presentio on my gPhone. Prolly need to update my Flash Player. Will let you know if it works.

We need to get Microsoft's attention to this post..... – Saqib Ali, on October 06, 2008 03:58

Ananda,
I have tried that. If the users stay with very very basic formatting in Office 2007, the the .xls don't get bloated that much.
However most users are accustomed to certain formatting and function. If they add those, the down-rev files bloats by 5x. :( – Saqib Ali, on October 06, 2008 03:35

Ananda,
Good analogy. But overlooking one key thing - you don't share you TV with your neighbors and friends. On the other hand you have to send the Word documents and Excel sheets to you business partner, who may or may not have Office 2007. So you need to save it to a lower version for compatibility reasons. – Saqib Ali, on October 06, 2008 03:32

Kathy,
thanks for the response. That was very helpful.
I tried dissecting the .xls (2003 compatibility mode) file, and it appears that Excel 2007 adds a reference to something called themeManager.xml when you save the files in the 2003 compatibility mode (i.e. .xls). I couldn't find any useful information about themeManager on Microsoft's website, but from what I understand, it
defines the formatting of a document. This additional xml metadata causes the the file to bloat. And since native 2007 (.xlsx) is a zipped file format the file size increase is not noticeable, but when saving to .xls format (non-zipped) the file size increase is striking.
So I guess the only solution is is to remove all formatting and theme before saving the to .xls file format (compatibility mode) using Office 2007 – Saqib Ali, on August 02, 2008 02:52

Saving to .xls in Excel 2007 increases the file size by 5xHas anyone noticed that if you open a Excel 2003 .xls file using Excel 2007 and then save it back to .xls (2003 compatibility mode), the file size increases by 5x? 1 MB .xls file becomes 5+MB .xls file......
However saving the file to .xlsx reduces the file size?
What gives?
Note: This doesn't happen with all xls file. It only happens when were are using certain functions / features. However I haven't figured out what causes it........
