I work for UniversalGiving (www.UniversalGiving.org), a web-based non-profit that connects individuals to the best performing projects to donate to or volunteer with, all over the world. We have hundreds of opportunities on our site, from working in wildlife and environmental conservation in South Africa to providing support to artisan communities in Costa Rica. We vet all our partner organizations through a rigorous QualityModelTM before they can appear on our site.

If you're interested, I can also put you in touch with our founder and CEO, Pamela Hawley, who was inspired to serve others by seeing extreme poverty in Mexico when she was twelve. Since then, she has served and volunteered all over the world. She has worked and volunteered in microfinance in remote villages of India; crisis relief work in the 2001 El Salvador earthquake; sustainable farming in Guatemala; digital divide training in Cambodia; and indigenous community preservation in Ecuador. Additional volunteer trips include Thailand, Mexico, Nicaragua and Colombia.
