I was disappointed to see this removed from the road map too. I recommend creating an account on Bugzilla and voting for this feature. If enough people vote for it, maybe it will be bumped up on their priority list.

I was able to fix the problem. I uninstalled Songbird, cleaned the registry, and reinstalled. It appears to be working fine...for now. – Saturnine, on May 13, 2009 18:04

I am running the latest Songbird (1.1.2) and having the same problem too. It's frustrating. Doesn't matter from where I select to launch Songbird either. It simply won't start, but oddly enough it does show under the processes tab of Windows Task Manager as running. However, it does not appear under the applications tab of the Windows Task Manager. No window displays the application.

A comment on the idea "Sort by directory structure, please!" in Songbird:

Good to know it is in there, but its a bit clunky to use as a column heading. I would rather it be a different media view option to substitute the current default category view panes (genre, artist, album). The current addon available needs another pane and a playlist in order to work which I find to be clunky too. – Saturnine, on December 04, 2008 01:18

I think this is a good idea. I think of what he is saying compared to watching a show on the tv and it goes to a commercial break and suddenly the sound level is jacked up. Whenever I listen to music, whether it's on my computer or my Ipod, I have always been annoyed when I have to stop and adjust the volume because the sound level between 2 different tracks is imbalanced.

If I remember correctly, Windows Media Player has a feature to level the volume of tracks across a CD when burning. I would love to see this feature implemented when you are listening to an album or a custom playlist in Songbird.

I agree it is very annoying. On Windows Explorer, my music collection is arranged in folders by artists>albums>songs. However, when I import media into a player such as Windows Media or Itunes, the program arranges the songs according to the metadata. If it's a compilation album, suddenly all X amount of songs are separated and categorized automatically by the artist name. Having the option for Songbird to preserve or ignore the existing file structure of a directory would be fantastic!

I've been thinking about the legal issues associated with torrents. The liability would fall on the torrent site providing the torrent file, not the tool or program used to get it.

I agree that it is easier to develop it as an add-on and avoid the legal issues altogether. – Saturnine, on August 20, 2008 17:55
