Not at all. I was just responding to eclectic's humorous status. I'm very pleased that you're voicing concerns about course costs and other ideas. They are being scrutinized and passed on. – Seamus, on December 20, 2008 01:19

Thanks for these. Access is definitely something we want to integrate into the membership. And I hear you on our neighbors to the North. We have gotten similar inquiries about benefits that appeal to our international audience. We will be working on that in 2009. – Seamus, on December 18, 2008 16:13

Membership levels based on career situation, industry, etc are things we are definitely thinking about. Would love to hear more suggestions. – Seamus, on December 18, 2008 16:10

Thanks for this input. Very excellent points. Lots of challenges to face and evolution to embrace. I didn't intend that to rhyme. – Seamus, on December 18, 2008 16:08

Hi Bill,
Thanks so much for your suggestion. We agree that with the number of services we offer, the number of emails can become daunting.
One of our goals in the new year is to work on some more conversational methods of communication. We're starting to use our Twitter feed for that type of communication. We're also talking about launching a community blog. And of course, we plan to use Get Satisfaction as much as possible. As our community grows on here, we'll be able to use it for company announcements and other messages, in addition to the great ideas we get from people like you.
We're for anything that will reduce email strain. We all feel it.
Best,
Seamus

Let's Brainstorm On: AvantGuild in the Digital AgeA member of our community asked this question recently on our Twitter feed: "What will happen to Mediabistro's "how to pitch" when print is no longer the primary industry we pitch?"
This is a great question, and one that's not easy to answer. Although we do feature HowTo Pitch features for solely digital publications, the fact is the media landscape is evolving rapidly. That includes the print industry especially.
Although AvantGuild offers other editorial content and benefits, How To Pitch has always been the core. But as the industry adapts, so must we.
So here's the question: How do you see AvantGuild in the digital age?
What should a professional media membership be about now? Are you interested in The American Express model, where you get special access to events and people that matter to your industry (like an intimate session with a new media strategist)?
What do you want to see as far as editorial content? What matters to you?
Should we create membership levels based on industry, such as journalism, PR, etc?
Are you into the whole gold, silver, platinum thing?
What type of work/life benefits do you want?
What else?
What we'd love you to help us out with: We love you suggestions, but we'd really love it if some of you would create a sample or "mock" AG membership. It can be geared towrd a specific industry, and as broad or focused as you like.
Share your ideas in this thread. Looking forward to seeing them!
Best,

Thanks for taking the time to give us your ideas/suggestions. The good news is that pretty much everything you've mentioned is in the works. We're going to start upgrading the blogs early in the new year. It will be very exciting when we're able to unleash the upgrades on our readers.
So stay tuned, and I encourage you to keep any other ideas you have coming.

Hey myswriter,
Thanks so much for this suggestion. We've actually just started to plan a career panel/workshop for AvantGuild members. It will take place sometime in January in NYC. If you're not in NYC, the event will be videotaped and made available later.
We're about to start a thread here announcing this, and to solicit feedback for what should be covered. So stay tuned.

Seamus replied on November 04, 2008 20:41 to the question "What is size limit of any one work sample?" in mediabistro.com:
HIredhand,
There is no limit on individual file uploads. I jsut tested it our with a 6 megabyte file and it uploaded fine. Sometime a hiccup in your internet connection may cause an interruption. It's also possible that at the time you tried to upload, our site was experiencing sluggishness.
I recommend you give it another try and see if it works.

Hey Lauren,
Thank you for this great idea. Some others have expressed an idea similar to this in the past. There are some services like Goodreads, as well as some Facebook applications that have the functionality you're talking about. Goodreads even lets you integrate their service onto other websites.
I'll definitely discuss this idea with everyone at MB.-
