Sean Johnson replied on December 21, 2009 13:01 to the problem "bubbles won't fill in, only set as 'planned (00:00)" in Snooty Monkey:
Hmm I'm confused on this one. I get the part about the "Go to today" link not being accurate. That was fixed a couple weeks ago, "Go to today" now points to /today rather than to the specific day BubbleTimer thinks is today, so when the day that is today changes at midnight, the link will still work accurately.
What I don't get is the bubbling behavior. I THINK this means you and BubbleTimer aren't in agreement on what time of day it is. The time you see displayed in BubbleTimer comes from your computer via JavaScript. But the server also needs to have a concept of what time it is for you to bubble things properly. It does this based on your timezone setting.
So please check yours "My Account -> Profile" and let me know if it's accurate.
If it is... let me repeat back to make sure I understand the scenario: It's 12:01 AM on Monday. You go to Monday and it thinks Monday is still tomorrow. So you have the "Go to today" link rather than the time and your bubbles are marked as future. When does it start thinking Monday is today? 12:xx or 1:00AM? or?
Sorry about this. I'll get this fixed with your help.
Thanks,
Sean

Jerry,
The only auto-complete for activities used in the last month is now in place. You should see the old typos and no longer used activities gone. Let me know if you have any issues with it.

Let's not get crazy and start holding up Quicken as the UI to aspire too!
Since I spent a good deal of the afternoon saying no to your various ideas, I'm happy to say yes to this one (one month forgetting of auto completion).
I couldn't agree more on the subtle UI causing users to miss things. You see some of it here on the forum but I see a ton more in email. 9 times out of 10 when people ask for a feature, it's something BubbleTimer already has. I'm adding a "How do I?" mini-FAQ feature right into the UI to help address this. Should go live fairly soon.

That's a very elegant solution, but the problem with the cursor down and press delete is it would take some work to implement it and then only 2 people would ever know about it and use it, you and me.

Sean Johnson replied on December 18, 2009 18:23 to the idea "privacy--deleting older records and keeping data locally" in Snooty Monkey:
Jerry,
I hear you, but ultimately there are a LOT of great ways to track your time. Pen and paper. A spreadsheet. A local application.
BubbleTimer is not for everybody or everything. If local data, privacy and data security are your #1 concern, then there are much better alternatives. People choose BubbleTimer because it's simple, they can easily get to their time from anywhere they have a net connection, and they can share their time with people they trust. This all goes away in a local storage mode, so why use BubbleTimer? There are some great desktop apps. and pen and paper solutions that would be a better option.
Just to take another example that's near and dear to me. Google Docs is my preferred way to create electronic documents today. That's because I prioritize collaboration and flexible access to my documents over security and privacy. If I didn't, I'd still use MS Office or Apple iWorks or OpenOffice instead.
Thanks,
Sean

Jerry,
It's possible of course. Probably wouldn't delete them, rather just flag them to not be in the auto-complete.
How about this instead though... what if there were a time limit on the auto-complete? Like say... activities from the last month, or 3 months or week or whatever. Would that fit your need (it would make me happier not to add anything to the UI, keeping it simple and all)? If so, how long? A month?
Thanks,

A comment on the idea "privacy--deleting older records and keeping data locally" in Snooty Monkey:
Yes... I think the deletion could be done fairly easily. I'll add it to the list. Still not sure on the relative priority though since I think I've only been asked for this a couple of times.
I can actually see a point in time where HTML5 databases and Google Gears for example could deliver a good BubbleTimer experience w/o storing any of your data on the server. Would you want to use it that way (the privacy issue is worth not having access from multiple devices to you?)
Thanks,
Sean
Thanks for the good idea!

Well, that's interesting... would it allow offline access? I'm not so sure it would! If it allowed offline access then there'd be a syncing problem. You'd fire up the app. and if your phone was offline, you'd bubble some time and shut down the app. Now, you get back to your office and start using BubbleTimer on your computer... you'd have to remember to open up the application again so it could submit the time. It might be that even with a native application, you'd need to be online to use it.

I'm with you. I sometimes find myself thinking, "I'll just remember this for when I get home.", when I'm on the go rather than using the web app. It's not good. I think a native iPhone app. is needed. Maybe it'll be my New Year's resolution!
Thanks,
