Support more shortening servicesHave you thought about using a service like LongURL.org to support more shortening services?

Sean Murphy replied on November 21, 2008 18:25 to the question "How come the website works with tr.im but not the userscript?" in Statiksoft, LLC:
gd, I'm not having any trouble with the userscript. I just tested it on this page http://search.twitter.com/search?q=tr.im which worked fine.
Are there any other shortening services you're having trouble expanding with the userscript?
The userscript uses a cached list of known shortening services to determine which links on a page should be expandable. To manually update that cached list you can either uninstall (checking "Also uninstall associated preferences") then reinstall, or visit about:config, filter by "longurl_expire_services", and set the value to a blank string. The next time you load a web page it will update the list of known services.

Tapsa,
I'm not sure what causes this to happen, but the suggestions in this post have helped others: http://cybernetnews.com/2008/07/05/in...

I agree, it'd be nice to see this feature site-wide. It would also be nice to be able to expand all shortened URLs.
I wrote a web service API that makes this easy (http://longurl.org) and even a jQuery plugin that mimics the Twitter Search functionality (http://longurl.org/static/jquery_demo...).
However Twitter decides to do it, it'd be a welcome addition to the UI.

Hmm...I just tried it out with that userstyle and the Twitter Reloaded userscript, and it worked fine for me. Any chance there's something else interfering? Anyway, I'm glad you like it. – Sean Murphy, on September 18, 2008 14:46

Chris,
I just happened to come across your issue here. Until I saw that you were having problems I hadn't tested the userscript in Fluid.
I finagled my way around the Greasekit/Greasemonkey inconsistencies, and got it working for me in Fluid.
Give it a go if you'd like, and let me know if you have any more problems.
Next time you should try commenting on the userscript page too :-)
Oh, and just FYI, LongURL Mobile Expander doesn't interfere with title attributes because it uses it's own Javascript tooltip which provides a better user experience.
Cheers!
Sean

Hey, I just launched a standard web service API for expanding shortened URLs. It supports many shortening services (more to come) and should make it easier for the Twhirl developers to implement a preview feature. It's called LongURL (http://longurl.org). Check it out!
Cheers!
