To change the footer, log in to your list as the admin, click on "Customizing" then choose "Message Footer" from the drop down menu. Then add this:
To unsubscribe, send a blank email to:
nameofyourlist-unsubscribe@lists.onen...
Where nameofyourlist is the actual name of your list. Then click save at the bottom of the page and you should be good to go.
Sean Pender shared an idea in ONE/Northwest on November 19, 2008 19:44:
How one ONE/Northwest list owner creates HTML emails for use with Sympa lists. One of the limitations of Sympa relative to higher end email tools (like Vertical Response, Constant Contact, WhatCounts, etc) is that it doesn't have the most robust feature-set when it comes to creating graphics rich HTML emails.
Lesley Adams at Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands Center http://www.kswild.org is responsible for their email newsletter sent via Sympa and here's what she does, in her own words: "I don't use a template, per se. I just use different fonts and colors in my email program and insert a .jpg banner at the top (banner changes depending on the season and issue, and I just change them in InDesign and export as a jpg).

Jim, that question is covered in our Sympa help section:

Sean Pender replied on November 03, 2008 20:49 to the question "How do I share the documents I upload for my list?" in ONE/Northwest:
Chelsea-to share the documents with your list, just send a message to the list telling them that you've posted the documents. Subscribers can then access the documents by logging in to Sympa at http://lists.onenw.org. Your subscribers will first have to request a password from Sympa by filling in their email address in the proper box at the URL above, and an auto-generated password will be sent to them via email. They can then copy/paste that PW into the proper box at http://lists.onenw.org, login to the list and access the shared docs.

Sorry for the delayed response. Get Satisfaction is something we're starting to test and you are the first person to respond so you get to be our guinea pig. The hope with Get Satisfaction is that a number of ONE/Northwest Sympa users will help each other answer questions and form a community of users. But we haven't really publicized it yet, so that makes it difficult to form a community, as you've discovered.
The answer to your question is that Sympa is an open-source email hosting program that doesn't have paid staff behind it, creating templates or new features and as such it's more limited than Constant Contact, but it's also cheaper. That being said, I've seen some decent newsletters from Sympa users and I'll email you offline with contact info for one of the people who creates newsletters for Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands Center. Their newsletter has images and links and does a pretty good job of utilizing Sympa's features.
