seba kerckhof shared an idea in Songbird on September 09, 2009 21:08:
iTunes 9 homeshare alternativeHello,
Apple has launched iTunes 9 today, and it sure has some nice improvements.
One particular thing I like is the homesharing feature.
It's a feature that allows you to easily share your library with other computers on your lan network. And when you watch the library on another pc, you can drag & drop tracks to your own library to copy them etc.
It would be so great to see this in Songbird.
You can see a demo on this in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y5fk7... at about 1:50.
seba kerckhof marked one of Boris' replies in Songbird as useful. Boris replied to the problem "Occasional small skips in song".
seba kerckhof gave praise in Songbird on July 25, 2009 10:52:
This bird has a planHello,
I want to give praise, but this time not for the software itself, but for the way you guys plan and develop the software.
Every release cycle I see improvements in the planning and release cycle. You can only get qualitative software if it's thoroughly planned, and I think you guys are already on a level that a lot of other software companies would be jealous about.
This bird doesn't just start building it's nest, it has plans for the greatest nest ever.

A comment on the question "Why can't I customize my display panes???" in Songbird:
about:config is the page that has the list of all the settings to edit, add or delete. You can access it by opening a new tab and using 'about:config' as the address. Be carefull if you make any changes. – seba kerckhof, on July 13, 2009 00:00
seba kerckhof replied on June 19, 2009 14:27 to the question "Transferring Itunes to SongBird" in Songbird:
It's explained on this page, under 'iTunes import/export':
http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Getting_...
Basically just options->media importer->itunes import/export tab->import tracks from iTunes to Songbird

seba kerckhof replied on June 12, 2009 19:19 to the problem "When syncing to my iPod, I wind up with more songs on my iPod than in my regular library." in Songbird:
Well, the iPod add-on is a bit deprecated.
Reverse engineering the way iPod syncing works is very difficult as Apple made it as closed as possible and tries to prevent other software from syncing with the iPod. That's (the biggest reason) why there are quite a lot of problems with the iPod add-on.
In the upcoming 1.2 release (beta 2 already available) there's a possibility to sync with iTunes. When you sync your Songbird library with iTunes, you can sync your iPod with iTunes with the assurance that everything syncs OK and the latest devices are supported.
seba kerckhof replied on June 08, 2009 21:38 to the question "import songs, not the file" in Songbird:
Hello,
When Songbird imports songs, it only stores information about the song and it's location. It doesn't actually move the song as long as you don't use the media organisation. The last one is a new feature of songbird 1.2, that automatically organizes your music files to a given folder/file structure.
I Hope this answers your question
A comment on the idea "Share Library between multiple PC's (and OS's)" in Songbird:
Yes, it would be very awesome.
I however see a problem in files you want both local and on the server 'master'. How would songbird now they're both the same file and only show one (the local)?
You could check file size and song title-artist, but that's not really a clean solution. – seba kerckhof, on June 05, 2009 20:41

Would that be the same thing as iTunes server (if you're familiar with that)'? I think that would be awesome. – seba kerckhof, on June 05, 2009 17:58

seba kerckhof replied on May 30, 2009 16:01 to the question "Does SongBird support Winamp encoded HE-AAC files?" in Songbird:
I think this might be the same error as in this bug:
http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
You should read it through, I think it states why Songbird can't play it.
Can you play it in other players than winamp?
A comment on the question "How are pictures downloaded onto the 4th generation nano?" in Songbird:
Oh, of course, I'm so used that people ask for album art support I forgot about normal pictures. – seba kerckhof, on May 30, 2009 14:20

seba kerckhof replied on May 25, 2009 19:35 to the idea "missing basics" in Songbird:
Hello,
Most of your ideas are related to performance. Performance isn't something that can be boosted 1000% overnight. Each release the bird is lighter and flies faster, so give it some more time and I'm sure performance will be ok for large libraries.
To answer to some specific requests:
-Freezing while searching: this is largely resolved in the next release.
see: http://bugzilla.songbirdnest.com/show...
-No shortcut for quickly editing tags (metadata): this will get resolved in the release after the next one.
See:
http://wiki.songbirdnest.com/Releases...
-tag from file name: the 'tagger' addon can do this for you: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/...
-rename files according to their tags: this is a feature of the next release (soon to be released).
This week there should be a beta available of the next release.
