Looking at this site (and a quick google) shows that 3 and T Mobile charge twitter smses at international rate.

I haven't (yet) found data for the other networks. I have one person on my follow list who tells me their orange plan charges it at the standard UK rate.

A comment on the question "o2 UK" in Twitter:

20p (vs 5p for a UK sms) on T Mobile's Text Appeal plan.

People keep telling me that their mobile phone provider treats it as a UK sms, I'd like to know if that's true, or whether they don't notice.

3 apparently charge it at international rates too. A real UK number to text would be wonderful! I'm being charged 4 times my normal sms charge to text twitter!

T Mobile in the UK are doing the same. I pay 5p per normal sms, and I'm charged 20p for an sms to twitter.

It would be great if twitter had a UK number so I don't have to pay so much.

I think if twitter implement a metric people will just work round it. However I know that if someone is following thousands of people and being followed by 5 that it's spam.

I get several spam follows a day. It sucks.
