The behavior is a little inconsistent for us. I'm attaching a screenshot:

Sometimes the description will show up. Sometimes I can't even get the backlog item to expand in IE.

Most of us use Firefox. However, there are product owners who want to use IE.

Thanks for the explanation, that helps. The idea submitter role will be useful when it's complete. I'd like to also suggest adding an Observer role...someone who has view only privileges. This would be useful to my organization.

SP is an abbreviation for something, I'm guessing. It's editable under Project -> Settings -> backlog_units. Can anyone tell me what it stands for? My googling for this term has been fruitless.
