Would it be possible to have this as a settings feature, additional couldn't you do some form of an anchor to maintain where you are within the page? I'm not saying it should be the default behavior, but would be nice functionality.

It's probably best that we explain why this happens in the first place.

Imagine you're way down the list reading all of your stuff and maybe even replying to something when all of the sudden, your page jumps around a bit. This is because stuff would have automatically loaded in. Because this would be a poor user experience, we decided to make the action explicit rather than just deliver the updates to you.

One shortcut that you might consider is just hitting the "E" key on your keyboard whenever the dialog is up at the top, as this does the same thing as the button.
