Finally got the problem solved -- only after I lost the ability to bookmark completely!!!! When I did a search for something like "Firefox Bookmark Not Saved" I found the solution that worked for me. It turns out some files were corrupted in the Profile folder (who knew I had such a thing) and I need to simple delete them which forced Firefox to re build them. Now everything is back to normal -- Yeah!!!! Here is a link to the instructions I followed that solved the problem for me:

It seems to have worked for a lot of other people as well, unfortunately not for me and I am dragging the icon, not the URL. Thanks for responding though -- I posted the problem on mozilla's forum page hoping to get an answer -- I'm kinda lost without being able to drag & drop bookmarks. – sherpaco, on October 20, 2009 12:08
