In theory I do like the idea...the problem is figuring out how to legitimately display all those packages and it not look like a massive mess of lines crossing each other.
Maybe we only show the current location of each package and not the lines of where it's been? I'm not sure...but it's definitely food for thought and something I'll look in to.
Thanks for the suggestion and for using TTP!

My guess is it's the latter. ;) – Shpigford, on November 21, 2009 04:15
A comment on the problem "Out-for-delivery notifications not received" in TrackThePack:
That would definitely explain why it still says "Out for delivery." The status is based on the actual event time as sent to us by UPS. So in this case, UPS says it was Out for Delivery 2 hours after it was delivery (ha!) so our system takes that info and orders things accordingly.
So that particular issue seems to be a freak case.
As for the delivery notifications. I have tracked down the issue and am working now to resolve it. – Shpigford, on November 21, 2009 01:12

Thanks for your thoughtful input Danny. Definitely love getting solid feedback from users.
So, here's my initial thoughts. The problem with a few of your suggestions is that they involve the user having to go in and change a setting...the fact is most users have no idea they can customize settings on any website...doesn't even cross their mind. On top of that, what the setting would be for is a pretty small aspect of the app and something that ultimately would cause more confusion than not for the majority of users.
But, that said, I definitely understand where you're coming from, especially when you've got half a dozen or more items to archive.
So, what about this. What if we remove the "Are you sure?" popup and give users the option to "Undo" the archive action?
I'd then argue the click flow goes like this:
1) Hover
2) Click archive
3) Repeat
Again, the majority of users don't track a ton of packages at once (usually 1-3) so cluttering the interface with additional settings and checkboxes ultimately is counterintuitive for most.
But dropping the confirmation popup could possibly be happy medium.
Thoughts?

Did you ever receive the email for this?
Only thing I can think of is that maybe it got marked as spam because these are definitely getting sent out. – Shpigford, on November 20, 2009 03:44

Sorry folks. We reworked some of the number identification logic and the USPS stuff wasn't very happy with that. :)
The problem is that USPS itself is saying it doesn't have any info on those numbers. That's likely just because they don't have the info in their system yet and will within 24 hours, so I tweaked things so you can add those numbers. They'll just say no info can be found, but once USPS updates their database, we'll have the updated info.
Thanks for your patience while we get things tweaked!

TrackThePack Now Supports OnTracI'm proud to announce that TrackThePack now supports OnTrac (formerly California Overnight). As usual, we auto-detect the number, so you don't have to do anything differently...just drop in your number and we'll do the work.
