They both have an OPEN API to update their respective status so it is possible it is just a matter of coding it into the ping.fm software

Yes there is an API for AIM at least. I am hoping this will be implemented soon! :-)

One would think that the most popular chat protocol would be a no brainer. As far as I know they have an open API that would allow this much like facebook and twitter. Any plans on implementing this?

Currently I update my Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and personal Microblog with ping.fm. AIM status updates are the only thing I regularly do manually still. This would be a great addition to the service.

I say develop an open source in house version that can be extended by other programmers. The only way this product will be able to compete long term is to make it the best one out there.

I expect the large social networking sites as well as Twitter will be incorporating many of these features into their apps.

Why would joe user use ping.fm when he can use Facebooks built in functionality.

The future lies in getting all these different platforms to work together in as many ways possible, If you guys can work with open standards that facilitate this and develop the best product then your future looks bright.

From what I have seen so far you are well on your way... The iPhone being a glaring omission to this of course...

Take as long as you want... But know that the first company to bring this functionality to market will most likely be the industry leader. That is the nature of business.

Unless Facebook decides to integrate this functionality into their API and then they will be the market leader based on sheer number of installed users.

Facebook/Myspace updates from two different ping.fm accounts? I would like to setup updates so that they only update my status to facebook and myspace and not twitter when send from my secondary aim account. Is this possible? The facebook app does not want to update when I try this and myspace says its working however it is not updating from my secondary account.

A native app is faster!

Also a native app will cache a message if you have no signal or its weak.

I agree an iphone app with location updates would be SWEET! The most important thing is the get the app up though and then add features.
