How do I get preview icons from PPT, PDF and DOC formats?

I notice that some people have PDF files which show image previews of the content. My installation of bumptop doesn't do this and I can't find a setting anywhere to change it.

Anyone know what I need to do to enable this?

With a 1440x900 desktop, how do I size an image so my floor paper is rendered correctly without nasty rescale?
