I certainly think that there's value to the mediawiki (wikipedia) model of your ip being your unique identifier if you don't have a login... for large wikis where editors may only ever visit your wiki once and make a single contribution, there may be more typing involved to get to the edit than in the edit itself otherwise. I'm pretty sure that you'd want an "allow anonymous edits" button in your admin page, so that wikis that use the "the *somethingsomething* that anyone can edit" model can have a home at pbwiki, along with all the other types of wikis you've got here. – Tim, on June 11, 2008 15:57

Hi Everyone, we're working on the issue, but I'd love to gather your feedback:
Should publicly-editable wikis be open to edits by anonymous non-users? OR should users be asked to login or create an account before being able to modify a page?
By having users log into their accounts before editing a page, the administrator may track who made what changes at any given time. The administrator will also have the ability to block or remove access from specific users.

Thanks guys for the response.............. I may have missed it, but if it isn't there I think it would be helpful to make it clear what pbwiki's defn of "public" is.................... not knowing about this feature has caused me significant incovenience and lost vital time on a community project I am running
