Any word on this idea? While I absolutely love the ability to create mailboxes on the fly, the tradeoff is that I've multiplied the amount of steps it takes to perform certain actions since I have to repeat them for each mailbox. Like the previous user mentioned, I have a lot of mailboxes and these repeated actions are tedious. For the time being I have resulted to setting each new mailbox to "forward and delete from OIB" so I can manage my messages better within gmail.
I'm a paying member and would love to see the following 2 improvements:
1) Ability to view some sort of global inbox so I can act upon all my messages regardless of the mailbox. While on the fly mailboxes are awesome, forcing me to use a folders for each is the opposite of what I want. Perhaps you can toggle this feature on/off and or provide the global view I mentioned.
2) Allow me to edit settings across multiple mailboxes. I like the previous users suggestion of checkboxes. I could easily select some/all mailboxes and change their settings at the same time. Better yet, some settings lend themselves to having a global flag/default setting... i.e. forward and delete. Even with the the ability to select all mailboxes, I would still have to go change the setting from the default for each new mailbox I add. Very annoying.
It must be hard to get bombarded with feature requests but all I really want to to use email as I would in a "normal" client and then add the cool OIB-specific features afterwards.-

As far as I know you can't have multiple exchange accounts on the iPhone. You can "cheat" by routing other accounts to a mobile me address which also supports push. Not the best solution but it works. I'd be happy with IMAP functioning normal and consistent. The web is still the best option for interacting with otherinbox as the mobile interface and IMAP aren't ready for prime time.

A comment on the question "I have a premium account. What are the IMAP settings to access my OIB messages over IMAP?" in OtherInbox:
@robin That's the solution I'm hoping for :) On another note, I have seen some speed improvements with IMAP on my iPhone although I still need to click on each mailbox to fetch messages. – simplynutty, on April 16, 2009 00:51

I still don't understand why you can't/don't want to display messages in the Inbox. I just upgraded to premium a few days ago in hopes that OtherInbox would work like a normal IMAP account plus some extra bonuses. Forcing users to ONLY use mailboxes to get at messages seems a bit extreme. In a perfect world things might work similar to Gmail where I can label a message without removing it from my Inbox view. OtherInbox would be the powerhouse allowing you to create addresses on the fly and have them labeled (put into a mailbox folder) automatically. When messages are only in mailboxes I have to click on a mailbox on my iPhone in order to fetch messages for that mailbox. Clicking through lots of mailboxes is a huge inconvenience. Please don't force users to use the service a certain way. Thanks. – simplynutty, on April 15, 2009 19:28

@Sid You can see the number of new messages per mailbox now but you might think differently as the number of mailboxes you have increases. Scrolling around isn't very fun. I was hoping OIB would keep the good features of standard mail systems and extend them but it seems like they might have traded or compromised them. I can get IMAP working on my iPhone but it's realllllly slow. – simplynutty, on April 08, 2009 04:52

I guess I don't know what you mean by dynamic mailbox or why it needs to be anything complex. It seems harder to split messages up into folders by mailbox, status etc. than to just dump every message by a user that's not in trash. SELECT * FROM messages WHERE userId = n AND deleted = 0; – simplynutty, on April 07, 2009 01:08

While you're at it, can you implement a "normal" Inbox to compliment the subfolders/mailboxes? This would allow me to perform all sorts of actions (including mark all as read) on all messages by just clicking on an Inbox mailbox. It's a real pain to have to scroll around and click on lots of individual mailboxes to see what's in them.-
