Simon de Haan replied on December 05, 2008 14:17 to the question "Passcode" in Soocial:
Hm that is odd and shouldn't happen. We have a database of phones & their capabilities, we only print & generate a PIN number if we know the phone actually requires it. It looks like theres an inconsistency in it where we think the phone does not require it but the instructions do.
In that case we'll usually send a blank PIN number, have you tried that? Otherwise you could try setting it up manually http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to...
cheers, Simon

Simon de Haan replied on November 19, 2008 14:37 to the problem "Lost contacts in gmail" in Soocial:
Ok, I traced part of the problem back to a very recent bug in Google's Contacts API.
Part of the fix will be to stop batching requests to Google, downside is that it'll make the syncs slower. I'm working on it.

Hi Notimpressed,
Thanks for taking the time to reply, sorry I wasn't aware of the fact that they were coming from your Gmail account to begin with. In that case, yes, that isn't supposed to happen.
Please allow me to have a look at your account history, including your backups to determine what happened. To do that, I will need your Soocial username, please mail it to simon at soocial.com so I can have a look.
Thanks and sorry for the trouble.

Hi Notimpressed,
Could you have a look at my reply here http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to..., it might be that the contacts you are missing are missing because they have an email address that is already assigned to another contact in Gmail which is something Google will not allow.

The suggested contacts problem with Gmail is a whole other beast, make sure you have a look at this thread http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to... regarding that issue.
And if you're up for it, please voice your complaint to Google about this issue at http://code.google.com/p/gdata-issues...

Hi Carblanco,
First of all thanks for using Soocial and sorry giving you the Hoff in his speedo. If you email your Soocial username to support at soocial.com we can see whats going on with your specific account.
The difference in contacts count between Soocial and Gmail can be explained by a limitation that Gmail has put on the contact list. Like I explained here (http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to...) Gmail will not allow you to assign an email address to a contact twice, and Gmail will reject any contact we try and add that has an email address already assigned to another contact. It could be that the contacts you are missing are because of this issue.
Could you check that with the contacts you are missing?

Simon de Haan replied on November 17, 2008 10:17 to the problem "Gmail Engine syncs only one contact" in Soocial:
Hi Michael,
I've found your Soocial.com account, and the Gmail account you are using only has 3 contacts. Only 1 of them shows up in Soocial because Soocial will only get contacts from Gmail if they either have a name or an organization defined as described here: http://getsatisfaction.com/soocial/to...
You say your Gmail account has 200+ contacts, do you happen to also have a regular Google account with the same email address? Sometimes this can happen if you had an email address as a gmail account before (say simon at soocial.com) and later switched to Google's Apps. It seems like in that scenario Google maintains two accounts for you, each with their own address book. It could be that Google internally has given us access to a different Gmail contacts list than what you were expecting.
I've had the exact same issue happen with my simon at soocial.com account and I fixed it by making sure I was logged out of all my Google accounts and then logging in with my Google Apps account and then setting up Soocial.com again.
I hope that explains your problem and hopefully fixes it too, let me know what else I can do for you.
Simon de Haan replied on November 17, 2008 10:04 to the idea "Need a way to mass-edit" in Soocial:
Hi Tom,
Very true, a mass edit is something we really need and is something we're working on. So far our energy has largely been spent on getting the Outlook and BlackBerry clients to sync properly, we'll be spending a lot more energy on the webapp the coming weeks to bring these highly needed improvements.
But apart from that, the issue you mentioned shouldn't have happened in the first place. It would help us to locate the problem if you could indicate where the contacts came from originally, did the contacts from Gmail cause problems or was it the Mac import into Soocial?
Thanks and sorry for the trouble
Simon de Haan replied on November 17, 2008 09:59 to the problem "Problem with restore of german characters" in Soocial:
Hi Jörg,
First of all sorry for the trouble and thanks for using Soocial!
I've tested the Outlook client extensively with a wide range of characters, including the ones you printed. What version of Outlook and Windows are you using?
All your Soocial contacts should always be available as a complete vcf file at http://www.soocial.com/contacts.vcf, if you only have one available there then please send us your soocial username as support at soocial.com to see whats up with your account.

Simon de Haan replied on November 17, 2008 09:49 to the problem "Lost contacts in gmail" in Soocial:
Hi Beans,
Thanks for pointing that out, this issue has been resolved quite some time ago but I've forgotten to update this thread with that info.
Instant Messengers and Groups have been added, we're syncing those to and from GMail.
Does that answer your question? Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
cheers, Simon

Simon de Haan replied on November 15, 2008 18:35 to the question "supporting verizon?" in Soocial:
Hi Rountrn,
I understand your frustration but from our end any user on any network operated by any telecom operate should be able to use Soocial, we're not locked in in that sense.
It might be that your telecom operator, Verizon, doesn't support the required data plans or that it has decided that your phone isn't allowed a data plan or that it will not allow our text messages to come through. It could be a whole lot of things.
You can always try setting up your phone manually and see if that works for you.
Simon de Haan replied on November 14, 2008 15:19 to the problem "unable to sync with outlook2003" in Soocial:
Hi Phil,
We're about to release a new Outlook sync client that'll allow you to send a more detailed log report about what's happening behind the scenes. Would you be interested in testing that one for us as it would allow us to test the crash-log feedback and the new build at the same time.
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!
Simon
