For those interested, and with help from Mo (previous post), check these sites for batteries for GO700 and other Tom Tom. http://www.megacapacity.com/23921.html, and http://www.longlast-battery.com. I have not purchased it but they seem good.
Now I need to figure out how to get it replaced whether by myself or thru some place. – sushant, on August 28, 2008 01:55

Just wanted to let everyone know that. Radio Shack can send it off for 20 bucks to get TomTom serviced. Hmm??? Also My power issue was my battery. I ordered a battery from Batteries Plus at 6365 Mayfield Rd. Mayfield Hts. Ohio 44124 (440)449.5555 the total bill was $30.16. It was a really easy fix. If it's out of warrenty and not working you might as well see if yo can fix it. I fixed mine. Try it. If you need to know anymore or just want to e-mail me at mo_burger@ymail.com also joel@geek.com was very helpful.

Anyone knows TomTom HQ or sr mgmt email/phone. The support gave me an address only as escalation based in MASS.
TomTom need to have disclosed their Battery replacement (i.e. not possible out of warranty) policy upfront - they did not. I have not heard of any battery that lasts more than ~2 years. This is not good. Most ridiculous thing.
Re - your problem, have you tried resetting (on the bottom using a toothpick or so) while plugged in to power and then hold the power on button for 3-5 secs. Then if it comes up, you may try going to their site and updating the app. Since there is no support from Mfr (:-(), everything you do is at your own risk !!
A sad state for all of us suckers..

I have a TomTom Go 700, that has worked well for 2 1/2 years. The other day, it would not turn on, or reset. Since it is out of warrenty, TomTom basically told me there was not a thing they would do to help me. I guess a $700+ product is a throw away. This is very bad customer service foa any company to demonstrate. TomTom has a new 'bad-mouther' of their products.

Just cracked the screen on my TomTom tonight. Tomorrow, I will shop for a Garmin or something else. Loved my TomTom, but I refuse to buy another $300 product which they won't even service. – Glamouritz, on August 18, 2008 04:27

I have a TomTom Go 700 whose battery is dead. It is technically out of warranty by 2 months though I have had the problem about 3 months before warranty expires.
TomTom says "They cannot replace the battery even at a fee because it is out of warranty, and they say it is out of warranty by 2 months -- nothing they can do". They offered me some measly discount on new products.
I do not think I am buying another TomTom. Where have you heard battery lasting lifetime of the unit ? I am not sure how they can operate as a business.
Anyone know US repair shops for Tom Tom ?

I have had my Tom Tom One XL for just over a year. One day out of the blue, No Warning!!! I tried to turn on my Tom Tom and it loaded up then just shut off. I tried to turn it on again and it would just almost go through the tom tom boot put then shut back off. Now it wont do anything. I called Tom Tom and they said try charging the unit by the USB on my computer for 2 hours. Well I did that and nothing. Still will not turn on. They also suggested uninstall and reinstall the tom tom software. (HMM???? I'm not a tom tom repair expert but don't you have to be able to turn the unit on before you can uninstall and reinstall it???) I was told there is nothing we can do for you. So now what??? I'm now out 300 bucks that I don't have and completely lost.

I have had my Tom Tom for about two years. One day the power would come on but the screen would stay blank. When I contacted Tom Tom they said there was nothing they could do. I can't belive that there is nowere to send these things inside the US to get fixed. I am definatly done with Tom Tom. If I have to buy another product it will be a Garmin or something

Well, I too was blown off my chair when I found out that I could not find anybody, and tom tom not being able to give me a name or number inside the US to fix a small dent in my screen.
This company does not realize that customer service should be a huge priority. I will not support them anymore like I have, and the company where I bought this product will also get a letter stating my dis satisfaction. Maybe thats why they no longer advertise this product.
Tomtom sucks big time. Companies like that will go out of business because of simple things like this.

I have the exact same problem. Real helpful people at Tom tom to say the least. Basically, they only consider you a customer if your product is under warranty. They actually suggested that I search the internet to find someone that could fix it. Wow. I almost fell over! Tell me how does that business model work? I hope someone with a shred of common sense at Tom tom realizes that this is a preposterous policy.

Both of the links are in the UK. You must send the product there for an estimate. I located one company here in the US and it would cost as much to repair as I paid for it. I believe that not servicing your products that are not in warranty is by design so the consumer is forced to buy other one and thus adding more electronic junk to the environment. The best solution would have been to replace the product. As you know (or maybe you don't know) word of mouth in the best form of advertising for good or bad. Would you rather have a satisfied customer or a unsatisfied customer talking to people about your product? To this day, the big three auto companies have not fully recovered from the junk they were turning out in the seventies. Today they make cars that are as good as anything out there, foreign or domestic but word of mouth has butchered them. My next stop is my3cents.com.

Hello,
So first of all let me say sorry for TomTom not offering a repair service. I sadly at the moment cannot say that it is a service we are going to offer in the near future.
However on a more up note I did have a look around and quite a few companies are offering TomTom repair services. The joys of the free market, if there is demand there is most likely going to be supply.
Below I have included two links I found from a quick google search. If these are not helpful please let me know.

I hope this helps, I understand how frustrating it can be. I dropped my first Palm Treo 650 a day or so after getting it while I was on holiday to a different country, so I did not even have my old handset :S While Palm offer a repair service I found a replacement screen from some random company on google much cheaper :)
Take care.
