maybe im biased because I have a sidekick, so for me it would be the same as sending a text message and i have a qwerty keyboard.

i could do this in like under 10 seconds because it would auto-complete the email address i would sen to then id jsut have to type real quick the activity with my qwerty.... super simple

i do too many different things to remember when i did each within like a few hour span. so for me this would be awesome... i guess for regular non qwerty it wouldnt be so great. but even say an iphone, this could still be faster than going through a web browser... and if you dont have 3g you wouldnt have to wait or try to see the little bubbles on the tiny screen.

ideally it would be done via text message however i think theyd have to set up some service for that. i mean that would be great though it you could text a # and it would do the same thing and it would know whos bubbletimer to update via the # its coming from.

    scrolling of the bubble view
Granted I don't know what programming you guys are relying on to display the bubble timer, but I believe there is probably a way to allow easier scrolling of time.

Basically a smooth scrollbar for the day rather than having to hit an arrow key to go left or right. You should be able to embed the entire thing in a scroll system that will still allow all the database information to work as well as the bubbles to fill correctly. Maybe you can even create the same sort of thing for the days, and maybe the days dont have to be horizontal. The days could go in list format so you can scroll up for previous days and down for next days, and then the horizontal would be the hourly for each day.

i just hate repetitive single clicks. id like some form of click and drag interface to move around. Eliminate superfluous clicks - increase productivity and efficiency.

Updating your bubbletimer from a mobile phone
I have a little mad scientist idea right now....

are you guys familiar with tarpipe.com? the new service that allows you to automate social site pipelines, so that lets say you send an email to an email address with a picture, it would intercept, format a lets saaaay facebook post that uses the subject as the title, the body as the note, and posts the picture to your wall.

if you guys worked with tarpipe to integrate bubble timer (or maybe you guys can do this yourselves by setting up some form of free email receiving account for members) you could allow the user to send an email from their phone to the email account (tarpipe or other) account, and the subject line could be the activity name, and it would use the sent time on the email to fill in the bubble for the appropriate time.

it would also cross reference to see if the activity exists. If it exists it will fill the bubble. If it does not exist it will create the activity and fill the bubble. Maybe even allow for custom shortcuts by number. so lets say my activity name is too long to keep resending in email.
I might email the subject (for example) as "scan:scanning documents on the 25th floor for case #43543" and it would keep the shortcut alias of "scan" (identified by the colon) in the system so that now i can just send an email that says "scan" and it will fill the bubble for the activity but it will allow the full activity name to remain in my bubble sheet for the day.

So in my phone I could put the address into my address book and very quickly shoot off emails like "scan" and then I would have filled out my current time for the 15 minute increment I am in.

Perhaps you can also add parameters such as scan -30 +30 so if I did that, it would fill in my current bubble, as well as the 30 minutes preceding the current bubble, as well as the next 2 bubbles after the current bubble. That way if you lets say get pulled away from your desk to do something and it ends up taking a considerable amount of time, 45 minutes in your can shoot off and email that says "scan -30" and it will tell the system youve been on that 25th floor for 45 minutes working on that scanning.

i dont know about you guys but i think its genius... maybe i am just buzzing on coffee ;)

but this is the problem that hurts me the most in logging my time. Being pulled away to do something. But i always have my phone....

    opinions? praise? :)

i like the idea of a timer... I mean if it is totally optional as a feature then it is just value added. those who like it use it and those who dont like it dont have to. and to solve the unlimited timer issue if you forget to turn it off, perhaps you can set a max time so that you KNOW you wont be working past a certain time on something but you would like to stop the timer if you finish early.

but this gives me an idea about absent-filling in of bubbles... ill start a new thread

Well, I understand what you guys are suggesting, however I lack the knowledge of what procedures or code to use to accomplish this.

I can link single cells in excel but im not sure to go about linking the entire column

and greasemonkey i just have no clue what code I would use.

We recently started keeping logs of everything we do at the office. We used to only track billable time but now it's everything. I find it tedious (and it is) to create a new excel spreadsheet for each week, rename all the days, and fill everything out in excel as I go, however I have to use their silly format.

When I go to the print feature of bubbletimer, I can copy all the information and paste it into cells in excel. However I need to adjust everything to match the format of our logs. So I have to cut and paste tings and rename things. Not so bad one time, but annoying to do every day/week.

It would be a nice feature if the information in bubbletimer could be set to my own personal preferences as far as the printing. So when I print I would have print settings that tell bubbletimer to rename certain columns, rearrange the columns, etc etc (hell if I can make my start/stop time two seperate columns thatd be great!)

essentially this would just set up a custom template for printing to which the default information can be remapped into. so for example I might have a column A for Date, column B is start time, column C is end time, column D is time spent (renamed to normal hours). Column E is activity (renamed to Event) and then thats it. no Goals in the print out.

and if you REALLY wanna get snazzy... set up filters for times. For instance, allow me to set a filter that whenever a time occurs before 8am or after 5pm, that time will print into a column labeled Saturday Hours (our overtime rate).

so all this doesnt have to affect the main bubbletimer interface.. i actually like that. I would just like it to do some processing for printing and give me lots of options. I dont imagine the coding would be that difficult. It is mainly just rerouting information and changing variables.

I am on my trial right now and I like it a lot, but if this feature was added I would be signing up tomorrow!
