SongbirdEthan replied on January 08, 2009 15:15 to the question "Advertising on CNET.com" in Songbird:
Hi Andrew,
Thanks for taking the time to present us with this opportunity. The short answer is that Songbird does not buy advertising. We pour nearly every dollar we get directly back into the product and supporting the community.
Luckily, Songbird users tend to spread the word to other revolutionaries that we're here. In fact, nearly 2/3 of all traffic that comes to Songbird is from someone typing our URL directly into the address bar. We're so incredibly grateful to our community for telling their friends about us.
I'd also add, that we appreciate the ongoing support from C-Net as well. We work so close to your offices that we can see your wireless networks. :) Thanks to you and the folks at C-Net for helping to spread the word about the 'bird.
Best,
Ethan
SongbirdEthan replied on December 04, 2008 19:24 to the question "Can Songbird Get Songs From The Internet?" in Songbird:
Songbird is not about stealing music.
We strongly believe in supporting artists by buying their music and going to their shows. In fact, we spent a lot of care and time integrating Songkick concerts and Mashtape (and are working on some other tools) to be sure that you can show your appreciation and support to artists by helping them make a living.
Sorry to get up on a soap box here, but stealing is not cool, nor is part of what we're here to encourage.
We work pretty much the same as any web browser with a right click "save as" button. So yes, you can download content from web pages as part of our web browsing features, but just like when using a web browser, you should be sure that any content you download is not "stealing". If you know content is posted somewhere illegally, be responsible and leave it alone. Many honest blogs are out there posting music that artists have given them permission to post for promotional reasons.

Looking for a few good Songbirders....Songbird is looking for a few customers who are willing to speak to bloggers and press about why they use Songbird.
If you actively use the player, believe in our mission and don't mind talking to a few folks in the press, send an email to customer [at] songbirdnest [dot] com with your name, email and best time to contact you.
Thanks!

Hey Jen,
Yup, we'll have a screen cast that talks about what Songbird is all about for 1.0.
As Tylerstyle points out, we're really focused on early, early adopters who care about open, customizable software and who are looking for alternative ways to manage their music collections.
As such, our screen casts have been focusing on technical improvements we've been making to the core product. For example: http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2008/05/...
My recommendation is to sign up for our email updates at the bottom of getsongbird.com. You'll get notified of new releases, and can decide for yourself when we've become a compelling, open, community driven alternative to iTunes. :)
Ciao!

SongbirdEthan asked a question in Get Satisfaction on June 27, 2008 18:54:
Where is the Admin Control panel?I can't find the admin page to add/edit employee status on Get Satisfaction, where does Get Satisfaction hide it?
I need to add an employee at my company to our list of official reps, but can't find the control panel where I can search for names and configure their permissions. I am an admin.
SongbirdEthan replied on June 25, 2008 22:46 to the question "How does songbird get money?" in Songbird:
Hey Dolfje,
The short answer is our business model is similiar to Firefox; it's an affiliate model.
In '06 Mozilla made about $61 million from one affiliate revenue deal with Google. I think you'll agree the Google search box in Firefox adds to the Firefox experience.
You'll see us mirror this approach in Songbird by seeking affiliate deals that improve the Songbird experience while generating revenue so we can pay our developers. :)
The affiliate model puts our incentives in the right place. We have to be laser focused on making Songbird something that our community loves to use. Passionate and involved music listeners are the key to making Songbird successful.
