A comment on the idea "Middle Names" in Soocial:
Hm, that's indeed interesting. As the separation only seems to happen in the background, it doesn't have any impact on the contacts in my phone, but rather on your syncing service.
Dammit, you guys have difficult problems to cope with... – Albert, on February 20, 2009 10:45

Yup, SE K810i, only one name field :) German version, if that makes any difference. No branding. – Albert, on February 18, 2009 18:19

All I'm saying is that I'm having much less problems when there's just one name field instead of two or three ;)
I have three places where Soocial is supposed to sync contacts: Gmail, Highrise and my phone. Two of them only make use of one name field (Gmail and my phone). So if Soocial tries to split names into two fields where there was just one field before, it can only go wrong, creating lots of duplicates in the process.

Bart,
of course you're right about this. But there are also contacts in my address book that cannot have a first or last name because they're not human (like company mail addresses or service phone numbers). For those, splitting into first and last name doesn't make much sense either.
In a way, I'm pledging for a system that doesn't use any first, middle and last names, but utilizes only one name field where everyone can put in what he/she wants. (Gmail kind of does this.) Of course, this is not a task that can be done by Soocial itself, but has to be accomplished by the other companies.-

This sounds great! My phone also sorts by first name, so I'd love to see the same sorting in Soocial's web interface. – Albert, on February 14, 2009 02:55-

I also find it quite annoying that Soocial sorts everything after the first word into the last name field.
Most people I know who have more than three words have multiple first names and not multiple last names.
I also give people in my phone's address book prefixes according to the company they work for, who then have three words or more. When Soocial syncs them, it puts only the company into the first name field and the rest (which is the full name) into the last name field. This way, the sort order becomes quite messed up...

Now almost all of my contacts are happily in sync, but a few ones are still obstinate and don't sync properly.
As mentioned before, they only show up as one e-mail address in Gmail, but are full-fledged contacts in Soocial.
Now what should I do to get them to sync? Can I delete the rudimental contacts in Gmail and be sure not to lose them in Soocial, instead syncing from Soocial to Gmail?
Albert replied on January 20, 2009 18:45 to the idea "Gmail reverse first and last contacts when syncing?" in Soocial:
Good idea, but I would actually prefer to see an option in Soocial to sort the contacts by first name rather than by last name. That would instantly sort a lot of things out (at least for me), because then I could have the same order in Soocial, Gmail and my phone (which both sort by first name only).

Bart,
thanks for your reply. I think I'm almost there now. Most of the contacts I've been missing in Gmail somehow slipped into the "suggested contacts" where they haven't been before.
But still the data is not coherent - (at least) two contacts only show up as an e-mail address in Gmail's suggested contacts, but as a "full" contact (multiple phone numbers, multiple e-mail addresses) in Soocial.
Maybe the bug lies within the transition from Gmail's suggested contacts to Gmail's "normal" contacts?
Anyway, I believe that after their last API update, Gmail started to allow duplicate e-mail addresses, because after I removed and then reinstalled my connection to Gmail, I had LOTS of duplicate contacts in Gmail. That got sorted out after one or two days, though (due to Soocial?).

How long for bug to be fixed that prevents fields from syncing?Hi there,
whenever I log in at the moment I'm getting the following message:
"We've discovered a bug which prevents some fields from being synced to certain devices. Rest assured we are not deleting any data in Soocial. Even if the field is missing from your connection we will be able to restore it. We hope to have a fix as soon as possible and feel free to contact us for further questions."
Just wanted to ask if there is a timeframe for this already? I'm asking because I am missing a couple contacts in Gmail which show up in my Soocial account. So I guess I'm being affected by this bug.-

Hi there :)
Data in Soocial and GMail still isn't congruent over here.
As I believe that something maybe just went a little wrong when syncing for the first time: Isn't there a possibility to somehow do a really thorough second sync that just checks and compares all data on both sides and edits them accordingly? Initiating manual sync didn't help by all means.
I'd really like to use Soocial, but at the moment it's pretty useless to me because I'm simply not getting all of my data synchronized.
Thanks in advance and best wishes!
