Chris,
The ability to better manage the queue is also on our list and will most probably appear in Version 3.2. These enhancements will allow you to cancel items in the queue as well as define how items in the queue should upload (currently it is smallest to largest). Other options will include most recent to least and order in which files/folders were selected for backup. If you have other ideas/suggestion, please do let us know and we will incorporate them.
Thank you again for submitting this feature request - we do realize its importance.
Very best,

SpiderOak replied on April 23, 2009 01:44 to the idea "Permit GUI-less Linux install/signup." in SpiderOak:
Chris,
We do agree in the need for a completely text based sign-up. As you mention correctly above, we also need to be able to verify the account (in the form of the Captcha). Your suggestion above is a good one and we will explore other ways to accomplish the goal of verification without the GUI.
Thank you again for your thoughts.

SpiderOak replied on April 23, 2009 01:41 to the idea "Run as a service in Windows." in SpiderOak:
Chris,
Thank you for your posting this request. We are indeed working on implementing this feature and it should be available in either SpiderOak 3.1 (due out in roughly 2 weeks) or SpiderOak 3.2 (due out in roughly 5 weeks).
And, as you know, please don't hesitate to keep the suggestions coming.
Very best wishes,

Karl,
The local backup option is a great feature suggestion and one that has been on our development roadmap for quite some time. Currently, we are working on the completion of our sync tool - planned release in another couple weeks. The local backup feature is to be included as part of our following release.
Thank you for passing along your thoughts and please don't hesitate to continue to do this in the future.
Very best wishes,

We do apologize for the delay in launching the forum but - as you mention above - it has arrived. We look forward to many fun, interesting, and dynamic conversations about the product and how we can continually make it better.
Thank you for your continued patience.

Roborative,
You are right that we should display more information when another instance of SpiderOak is running; we will add this soon.
As for your second question, it is not possible to run the headless version and the UI at the same time although your idea above is interesting. It is a feature that we have thought about adding and is on the future feature list.
Please do let me know if you have additional thoughts or questions about the above or other topics anytime.

Roborative,
Is it possible you have two versions of SpiderOak running at the same time. For example, is the application open before you open the command line. If so, you would experience the issues you mention with no output from the commands.
Please do let me know if closing the application resolves the issue and/or if you have additional questions.

Roborative -
To your question above, we have just tested the command line version in our various environments and it appears to be working as it should. For a complete list of the available command line options, please click here: https://spideroak.com/faq/how_can_i_u....
On Ubuntu the executable is /usr/bin/SpiderOak and all of the below commands should work:
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --help
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --print-selection
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --headless
/usr/bin/SpiderOak --batchmode
Please do let me know if you are able to make any progress and/or if you have further questions moving forward.

SpiderOak replied on January 06, 2009 19:30 to the question "How to back up data from external harddrives and network volumes? (mac)" in SpiderOak:
Josch,
Yes - we will work to enhance the ability to view external/network drives on Mac OS X in the future. Perhaps the easiest option would be to create another button that takes users directly to the '/Volumes'.
Unfortunately, each platform handles external volumes differently (as you can read from the FAQ) so the difficulty comes in applying a solution that works similarly in all three platforms (Mac, Windows & Linux).
Thank you for your suggestion, glad that you were able to locate the external drives, and we do apologize for the confusion.
Very best,

SpiderOak replied on January 06, 2009 17:08 to the question "How to back up data from external harddrives and network volumes? (mac)" in SpiderOak:
We apologize for the confusion. I will include a link from our FAQ that answers your question:
https://spideroak.com/faq/how_can_i_s...
Essentially - on Mac OS X - you will need to select the 'Show/Hide Hidden Folders/Files' button above the main window on the Backup tab. This will move to the root or top level of the file system after which you can select '/Volumes' - external drives will appear there.

SpiderOak replied on January 06, 2009 17:02 to the problem "Can't switch to the "Share" tab!" in SpiderOak:
I do apologize about the issue you are experiencing. If you don't mind, can I ask you to send additional information to our support email address (support@spideroak.com) such that we can better understand and diagnose the problem. This information may include what the application is currently doing (uploading data, downloading data, etc...), what type of data you are sharing, or anything else that you think might be helpful.
In the short-term, you might want to try closing down the application and restarting to see if that works.
Thank you in advance for your patience,

SpiderOak replied on October 07, 2008 06:04 to the question "How to autostart SpiderOak minimized under Ubuntu-Linux?" in SpiderOak:
Tom -
Thank you for submitting your question. We do agree that starting SpiderOak in a minimized state is important and will be improving how this is controlled in the 2.1 version of the application (due out in roughly a month).
Currently, however, there is a way to accomplish this task - you may run SpiderOak via its command line interface. There are command line options for changing your back up selection, running in 'headless' mode (no GUI at all), or running in 'headless batch mode' where SpiderOak will startup, do all available work, and then exit when everything is complete. You may see all of the available command line options by running SpiderOak with '--help'.
Thank you again for your question and we will continue to post additional information about our development on our blog (https://spideroak.com/blog).
Best wishes,

Thank you for submitting this issue. The problem described above has been solved in the SpiderOak 2.0 release which is due out soon (currently in Beta). In addition, the 2.0 version of SpiderOak increases performance by about 400%.
As soon as the release becomes available, I will repost news on this page.
