Meant RC 1... disabled all extensions... no pattern to sites (google reader, friendfeed, livejournal) seems to happen after FF has been idling a while. OSX Leopard fully patched

I might hack out the scripts for DM / Protected Message RSS feeds this weekend for the heck of it (I'm honestly interested now).

Whatever code you're using for RSS on your site would need to be augmented to handle authenticated RSS. Without knowing how your site is coded it's hard for me to comment further. You could also, in theory, write a script that would authenticate to twitter, pull down the DM feed and then republish it unprotected.
